Some people may know about this and others may not, but the ALS ice bucket challenge is basically a viral video campaign raising money and awareness for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (aka Lou Gehrig’s disease). The challenge works like this: you dump the bucket of water on your head and then challenge a friend to do the same or donate $100. A lot of people have been doing both.

Ryan Miller has already done it twice and nominated Charlie Sheen.

President Trevor Linden has done it and nominated Pavel Bure, Markus Naslund and Stan Smyl

Here is Markus Naslund who nominates, his old west coast express line, Bertuzzi and Morrison.

Charlie Sheen did it right. I don't know about this whole ALS ice bucket challenge. Everyone dunks in ice water to avoid donating... Hopefully some of these celebrities start to follow suit after Sheen.

Lou Gehrigs disease is a terrible disease and I am glad that there is some awareness about it now thanks to this fad but 90% of the people taking part are doing it because it is exactly that...a fad.

Just my 2 cents

I was reading a tweet from ALS society and they said that they raised more in 2 weeks of this ice bucket challenge than they did last year. Last I heard it was 5.5 million. I think the fun is there but people are donating as well.

The whole point is to raise awareness and create attention. Seems like it's working. A lot of people are donating and doing the challenges. Even if they aren't, the awareness is causing other people to donate.
