Was that a bad penalty by Labate or........?

He stepped up for a hit just inside his own blueline and led with his arm/elbow. It wasn't the hardest or most dangerous hit (and the player wasn't hurt) but just one of those that the second you see it you think, "yeah that's gonna get called". Would've been fine if he just kept his elbow tucked but I guess when you're 6'5" its easier said than done.

No goals in the OT period - this one is heading to a shootout. Valk came the closest to scoring as he toe dragged through a defenseman and rang one off the post, but no luck. He just looks like the kind of player built for 3-on-3 though.

Good call!

And a huge win for Utica. Not many teams get points against WBS

Demko faced 45 shots.  He is getting a pretty good professional education this year.  Great game, kind of a lot of penalties called.  Guys have to be psyched about the way they have played against WBS this year.  If we can make the playoffs, who knows?

Please send Goldobin!

St. John's has to go to Toronto on Wednesday I think it is.  That game at the Aud against the Ice Caps next Sunday is looking pretty big.  It will be another Sunday game in a 3 in 3.

3-2 the final as the Comets take it in a shootout - Wilkes-Barre led 45-36 in shots, with Demko making a career-high 43 saves for the win. This was a full 60 minute effort from what has to be a tired team, in a must-win game against the league's top team. Great game offensively by Subban who factored in on both Comets' goals, and by Valk who was buzzing all game and made a fancy deke to win it in the shootout. McEneny played his usual responsible well-rounded game and hit a couple of posts himself, and I thought Sautner had a solid third period defensively; he broke up what would've been a grade A scoring chance by just getting a stick on Aston-Reese's centering pass to Porter midway through the third, and also drew a penalty. The powerplay still has some work to do, but it looks better than before as Green has chosen to put McEneny and Subban together on the first unit instead of using the four forward setup. It was a very chippy affair with a lot of roughing penalties, scrums, and hitting, but luckily everyone kept their cool for the most part.

As mentioned before, Albany loses so the Comets move into a tie for 4th in the North, although since this was a shootout victory Albany still holds the edge in ROW. Next weekend the Comets have Toronto, Rochester, and St. John's.

Toronto, 83 pts (70 gp)

Agree with this. If WD isn't going to play Goldobin, just send him down now so he can help Utica because sitting in the press box will help nobody. He may not be quite NHL ready yet but he's proven he can score at the AHL level and would be a nice boost for the Comets' offense.

Goldobin is exactly what we need.  We can play D, we can forecheck, we just need a sniper playmaker.  Valk can't do it all by himself.  Pelletier was supposed to be the playmaker/finsher vet and he was scratched tonight in favor of Zalewki, who sat last night (or was it the night before?) so we have some legs on the 3d night of that 3 in 3.

People in town are getting pretty excited about these games (ticket requests online are strong) and if we can make the playoffs after basically being in playoff mode for 3 weeks we will be a tough out I'm sure.  Send Bacher back too while you are at it but play him in Van first so he doesnt come back cold.

And a Russian (Goldobin) for Pedan to hang with might get him rolling at the right time.

Bravo to Subban for continuing his overall good play.   A playoff run would be so good for the confidence of some of these prospects.  Cassels is getting a lot of opportunity during clutch time too.  He is relied on for face-offs and PK work.

Nice to see the Comets escape Wilkes Barre with a much needed victory. Subban was instrumental in today's win but a couple defencemen in Billins, McEneny and co did a good job keeping the Pens in check. Everyone forechecked and backchecked well and gave the Pens a hard time offensively. Demko with a spectacular performance in net yet again making 43 saves. Overall, a good afternoon and tough we weren't able to close it out in regulation but will take it with Albany struggling as of late. We deserve to sneak into the playoffs and with Goldy, Gaunce, Megna, Chaput, Bachman possibly all available for Utica after the Canucks season is over, we have a chance of making a magical deep run. Anything can happen once you're in. Go Comets!
