Bigturk8
It looks like Byfuglien and Scheifele will be the Alternates. http://www.tsn.ca/jets-name-wheeler-captain-1.558555 Jets name Wheeler captain TSN.ca Staff Blake Wheeler, Len Redkoles/National Hockey League/Getty Images The Winnipeg Jets named forward Blake Wheeler the team’s captain on Wednesday, while defenceman Dustin Byfuglien and forward Mark Scheifele will serve as alternate captains. The 30-year-old Wheeler finished sixth in the NHL in points last season with a career-high 78, and was fifth in the league in assists with 52. He ended the season on an eight-game point streak, scoring five goals and 13 points in that span. Wheeler will represent the USA in the World Cup of Hockey this September, along with Byfuglien. He previously represented the USA at the IIHF World Championship in 2011, as well as at the Olympics in Sochi in 2014. Byfuglien, who signed a five-year extension with the Jets in February, recorded 19 goals and 34 assists with 119 penalty minutes in 81 games last season. The 31-year-old was named an NHL All-Star for the fourth time, the team’s nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy and was selected for USA’s World Cup of Hockey team before the year was over. The World Cup will be the first time Byfuglien wears the red, white, and blue to represent his country. Scheifele, 23, is entering his fourth full season with the Jets after being drafted with the seventh pick in 2011. The Kitchener, Ont., native, who inked an eight-year contract in July, led the team with a career-high 29 goals last year.

Mathew Barzal
The obvious, and correct choice. A lot of exciting youth movements going on in Canadian hockey markets, I know how I'll be spending my free time this year.

Chris
Really? - Man He has come a LONG way since he was that young lanky SOB in Boston. Good for him, and Good for Winnipeg. I still wonder what Boston would have been like if they had made different decisions and had kept Kessel and Wheeler.
Jägermeister
Fun fact: Wheeler used the college UFA loophole to get out of signing his ELC with Phoenix after they drafted him 5th overall.

So awful for Arizona, losing a 5th overall pick. They went way off the board with Wheeler too (ranked 17th for NA players) and he ended up being a great pick at that spot (will likely finish 8th or 9th in career points of all time amongst 5th overall picks over 53 drafts. Also keep in mind he played during a lower scoring era). Wheeler is one of the most underrated players in the league (tied 6th in points last season). “We appreciate the Coyotes offering the maximum amount,” Keator said in the statement. “There is no question that they wanted to sign Blake and made every effort to do so but there was more than money involved in this decision." Monty
Best decision for the club in the short term and for the future. He's a tremendous talent and is very vocal in regards to people either not producing, or stepping out of line (see: Kane). And once his contract is up, when he's 33, he either takes a paycut to stay, or moves on and Scheifele is ready to take over captaincy duties. Butters Stoch
Everyones talking about how EDM and TOR are going to be such good teams in a few years but I think WPG will have the most successful and quickest rebuild. They've got a good balance of leaders in their prime with Wheeler, Byfuglien, Scheifele along with prospects with elite skills like Ehlers, Connor, Morrisey, and Laine.
