Columbus is extremely happy to come to terms with our franchise goaltender! Bob belongs in Columbus, plain and simple. This deal will make him the highest-paid goaltender in CDC Puck (same term and $500K/yr higher than extension given to Carey Price in June), but he has earned it. Originally we didn't think we'd have the cap space to retain him, so we made a play to bring in the cheaper Martin Jones earlier in the year. However, Bobrovsky has proven to be the far superior goaltender, and the one we'd prefer to keep. The announcement of an $83M cap next year, along with a couple of trades to bring in more cost-controlled players, all helped make this signing possible. Going forward, we plan to keep all of our goaltenders this season, to make our team as strong as possible to contend for another Stanley Cup this Spring, even if an injury occurs.
