Proposal: St. Louis/Vancouver

Recommended Posts

Blues looking to win now and they have the cap space to make an add and boost their bottom 6. Sutter is a smart player that coaches can rely on. Canucks get a young big prospect who is finding his way in the AHL. Also a fellow Russian that Podkolzin can befriend

To St. Louis

Brandon Sutter  2020 5th round pick

To Vancouver
Klim Kostin

how do you define "rely on"

They count on him to regularly miss stretches of play due to injury

Wonder if OP was trying to sell the whole "foundational player" thing?  Also his scouting report sounds really similar to Podkolzin, so hope he doesn't end up blocking our blue-chipper on his way to the league (he's also a RW not a C), though an asset is an asset and could see this move to open up our cap space.

We are probably gonna have to move Sutter in the off-season and Baer. Gonna have young guys knocking on the door. We have an overabundance of forwards as it is and need some cap.

1 year with Sutter at 4.375M isn't bad. Reliable dude defensively, wins draws, good leader and PKer. Might net us a decent prospect and/or pick

Moving Baer with 1 year left will be easier also. Project player don't know what he'll net. Nothing major.

Kostin is one of the top prospects for the Blues and I think the proposals seriously undervalues what a very good prospect can be worth.

I think they would want a prospect coming back and we have some good ones that we'ed be better off keeping in the system,

St Louis is winning games and leads the West rather comfortably.  No reason to think they'd want to disrupt chemistry and at the cost of one of their top prospects.

Sutter also carries another year.  They apparently would like to bring back Pietrangelo and Sutter would just be using up valuable cap space.

O'Reilly, Schenn, Bozak, Barbashev/Sundqvist are all signed through next season.  Sutter is not a need.

Agreed.

STL will be looking to clear some cap space to resign Pietrangelo, Blais, Dunn, etc.

My guess is that they will try and move Bozak and his $5m hit in the summer, and use Thomas or Sundqvist at 3C next season.

They don’t need Sutter this season and they definitely don’t want Sutter’s cap hit next season.
