Well calgary just signed 2 32 year olds to 7 and 8 year deals and the majority think that that GM is doing a FANTASTIC job!

Miller is worth it. Best talent we've had on the club since 2011.

Again-just because your neighbour's house burnt down does not mean it is good news that your garage burned down.

Also Calgary and Vancouver are at different timing regarding the team build.

You do both realize that Calgary is in a far different position as a team than Vancouver, right? Yup do grasp that teams have cycles of contention and rebuilding and that they are in the middle end of their window, and we're JUST entering ours in a year or two?

That’s because Calgary is going all in.
Look at the ages of all their stars.
They have no choice.
3 years from now they will blow it up and rebuild.
We are still rebuilding. No need to make similar moves

2 years ago our stars went on a playoff run and our young players all played phenomenally. More playoff experience is what we need.

Bo had 10 goals in 17 games

Petey was 18 points in 17 games

Hughes was 17 points in 17 games

Brock was 11 points in 17 games - and he was rushed back form injury....

Demko set an NHL record for rookie debuting in the playoffs in elimination games, and had a .985 % against stanley cup favorites Vegas.

They're ready. At some point you just have to start going for it. Much like the Canucks in 09. They were only 2 years away from contending seriously for the cup. Much like we are now. Miller is a big part of that and a big leader for all our young players.

Also, Huberdeau is 29.

That would be our core. A 1C, 2C, 1D, 1RW and 1G. When people want to "build around our young core" and use that as a reason to trade Miller, it's easy to hit them with the facts that those same 5 core pieces have been ready for 2 years.

To fill in for JT Canucks need to replace roughly a ppg.

Kuzmenko would likely get powerplay 1 time if JT gets traded. He's good down low playmaking and has a decent shot, it makes sense. He's an unknown but if he's getting fed powerplay time it's fair to assume he picks up 15 and 15, at least.

Ilya Mikheyev is a good player. He picked up 32 points last season in about 50 games. Safe to say he at least matches that. Another 30.

Podkolzin and Hoglander should both see increases in their quality of play over last year. Not sure by how much, but I think it's fair to assume they could each pick up the slack to fill in another 20 or so points.

These totals, in my opinion are pretty easy to obtain bench marks that would replace roughly 80 points with players we currently have in the lineup.

That's 21 primetime minutes a night to go to other players. It will surely be replaced by committee and those 4 players listed plus any roster player back from the trade, plus a resurgence from Boeser who has a lot to play for. Rathbone is also supposed to be in the line-up and should provide more offence, as should most of the defence who had poor offensive totals last year.

Islanders seem to have lost out on a lot of players they supposedly targeted. LL seems like such a hard a$$, I doubt JT gets traded there. Our management group is too smart and experienced to know if they are getting fleeced.

LL and JR are both old codgers. I can picture them both vehemently going back and forth on the phone and then both guys falling asleep and forgetting why their landlines are sitting in their hands when they wake up.

It is, but as noted by numerous people, they have a "win now" window for the next +/- 3, maybe 4 years, where it makes sense to sign those guys, for those deals. The back half won't be pretty, but they're rebuilding by then.

At that same point (the ugly, inefficient back half of those deals), our team and our key, core players should be at their absolute peaks, and closer to where Calgary is NOW.

This is why it makes sense for them to sign these guys NOW, but not us. In 3-4, years, we can look at signing/trading for the 2025/26 versions of then, in their prime, Huberdeau/Kadri/Miller etc. It makes zero sense for the Canucks to do that NOW. We're simply not there as an organization. Management themselves has stated as much.

Not disagreeing with anything you've stated r.e Calgary's window vs Canucks window.. but isn't it just a little bit frustrating that all our management groups have been saying our window is in 3-4 years, for 10 years now?

I haven't had an unreasonable expectation of how long it actually takes to rebuild a team basically from scratch, so no, not really.
