He grabbed his Sword and ran out the door with his son. Both Men fearing nothing, knowing nothing. Ran past the barn into the darkness. Then came the screams. The screams did not last. 
“DADDY!” Screamed Gerty. The mother ran to the porch and grabbed the shovel and ran back into the cottage. Slamming the door shut and blowing out the lanterns, they sat in silence. It seemed like an eternity. First the sound of galloping hooves, then shattered glass, then screams and finally silence once again. 

They have arrived.
