Seems to be the standard now for top tier RFA forwards... 8x8

Lots of deals being signed under the assumptions that the player will continue trending upwards and that the cap will continue to increase every year.  If so some of these deals could be good value,  if not, lookout!

The current set up is crazy. You often only get 2 actual years out of these guys on their 3 year rookie deals then they immediately get top dollar. Josh Norris could could definitely keep progressing, but he could just as easily remain as a 25 goal 50 ish point guy who is now making 8 million for 8 years when.

I honestly think rookie deals should be bumped up to 4 years.

what does this have to do with Horvat?

Norris and Thomas both signed 8x8

we are negotiating for Horvat extension and most fans wanted a long termdeal

under 7/7.5

looks less likely

Except they're not comparable...

Thomas just turned 23 this year and put up 77 points in 72 games.

Norris also just turned 23 and put up 35 goals in 66 games (pacing for 43 goals over 82 games) and 55 points (pacing for 68 points).

Horvat turned 27 this year and put up 31 goals in 70 games (pacing for 36 goals) and 52 points.

8 years brings Thomas and Norris right into their prime years (31 yo).

8 years for Horvat brings him to 35 years old and likely close to retirement lol
