Popular Post Podkolzins Snipe
Great signing and deal and I think this is great value for the Canucks because I'm expecting at least 10 more points possibly more with the improved play and growth of young linemates. The other thing that makes this deal great is the rare playing style of Miller with his big size, extreme compete level, very high skill and leadership combination who is also a protector of his linemates keeping other teams honest with taking liberties on young teammates which is something that's also very important. There's a lot of players making his money or more but I'd take Miller over them anyday he'sbeen a favorite of mine a player that despises losing which I love. We have all seen a lot of high priced star players that get a lot of points in the regular season but in the hardest games quite often they're a non factor or don't do as much as usual to help their team win but in Miller is see a big time clutch performer, the kind that helps lead his team to playoff series victories and Cups. Today was a great day and a big step towards being one of the best teams in the league and future Stanley Cups. Despite knowing that he would have received more on the open market as an unrestricted free agent, Vancouver Canucks top scorer JT Miller decided to take less in hopes of bringing a Stanley Cup to Vancouver, and he and his agent Brian Bartlett used the most recent Stanley Cup champions as an example. Prior to last season, Bartlett was negotiating for his client Cale Makar with Colorado Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic at the same time representatives for team captain Gabriel Landeskog were trying to get a new deal done. Like Miller, Landeskog also came to a deal for $56-million, but over eight years, at $7-million per. “The model that helped push this through was Landeskog,” Bartlett explained to VHN on Friday afternoon. “At $56-million dollars, they could use those other pieces. I recall that because we were doing Makar while they were doing Landeskog and you try to put the puzzle pieces together, and I think JT bought into the idea that if you leave a little bit, have something left, hopefully someone else will get it, maybe his buddy Bo (Horvat) or someone else. Keep it together for an up-and-coming team and have everyone feel good about it. That’s what pushed it over here.” Bartlett emphasized that it was Miller who pushed for the ‘hometown discount’. Bartlett knew more could be gained financially. “He wants to be there, he wants to play there, he wants to win a Cup in Vancouver,” Bartlett added. “He wants to be part of the solution, he’s come to love the city, loves his teammates. I feel confident that he would have made more on the open market depending on how the market played out this year, but this was something, a real clear directive, let’s get it done here in Vancouver.” The new deal doesn’t effect the club’s immediate salary cap situation. Miller will play one more season under his current deal that pays him $5.25-million for the 2022-’23 season. Canucks GM Patrik Allvin locks up his top-line centre and avoids a potential major distraction come training camp, making Thursday’s VHN story look rather prophetic. Attention will now turn to team captain Horvat, who has one season remaining at $5.5-million. This is the exact type of player who wins championships! This speaks volumes of his character and the type of player we rarely see in Vancouver. 2 3 1

They better hope they won before Petey is due Some people aren’t happy unless we’re in a constant state of rebuild. The hamster wheel of mediocrity is his safe zone. At some point you have to put your chips all in. Management must feel they’ve got a core that can grow into a cup contender within our 4 year window. Demko Hughes - OEL - Myers Miller - Petey - Horvat Podkolzin - Hoglander - Garland - Mikheyev - Boeser - Kuzmenko. That’s a great looking core. And some of our best players in this core are 23 and under. 3 1

Seems like he knew this was his best chance at cashing in. What are the odds he plays at a 100 point level again. Given he's previous best pace was barely 80. The open market was nearly a year away. He would have to replicate last season to make more than 8m per. The pessimist in me says he didn't wanna gamble on himself, took the most cash now. And good for him. He earned it. But I am not gonna pat him on the back and pretend he did us a solid. Mostly cause 8m was the max I would have been willing to do anyway. If he signed at 7.5m I'd have celebrated him as actually doing us a solid.

Sorry Calgary but not all parts of Canada were created equal. So many of the so called insiders and pundits were so wrong on this one. This just proved that they were talking out of their butts all offseason. Like others have said I love how there were no leaks either. The insiders all thought a deal was impossible cause they were so far apart. In reality the only thing that was far apart was the insiders from any sort of credible source. Popular Post ilduce39
If I was in charge I would have been working hard to trade him but honestly, I like it. I think this team is a lot closer than others are saying and thus, a “screw it” season where we deal our best player at the deadline wasn’t a good look. Like it or not, this guy is the heartbeat of the team and current premier offensive weapon in the lineup. If teams weren’t willing to buck up they can pound sand. We have almost 6 mil coming off the books via buyouts / Ferland next offseason. We can afford a 2.75 bump to Miller. Hopefully (and realistically via the internal cap) Bo comes in a little lower. Myers or someone else will have to budge to get something done on the back end but we’re sitting on contender-level forwards and goalie right now. With Hughes and OEL looking pretty studly on the back end. We’re close. Miller is a part of that. 5 4 1

StanleyCupOneDay
3 hours ago, Coconuts said: In all seriousness it's not as bad as I thought it'd be contract wise, but I'm not a fan of the term. Looks like it was probably Miller's side that caved. But no, I'm not a Miller fan and I'm still skeptical of this contract and his ability to play up to it for the duration of it. I'm not here to rain on people's parade but I'm not obligated to like anything, if others want to that's fine. Realistically I won't be here as much or following the team as closely and I've already begun to care less since deciding to step back from hockey, which is why I wasn't in the Miller thread as much. On the personal side of things it’s important for everyone to spend their limited time on this planet doing things they love, regardless of what that is or what anyone else thinks about it. If watching hockey is no longer one of those things to you then it’s the right move and I wish you the best in the real world. On the hockey side of things over the last 3 seasons Miller has been 12th in NHL scoring. His cap hit is now 50th in the league with his newly signed contract. That’s consistently putting up points for great value in comparison even if this last season he really broke out. I understand concerns of the term especially given how often we’ve been stuck with albatross anchor contracts when players don’t work out, but this happens to every team and even the good players who do work out taper off from their climax performances at the end of their last contracts in the NHL. It’s how the business works. It feels like worrying about something that may or may not end up problematic. It’s possible we trade him for good value, it’s possible he consistently puts up serious numbers and yes it’s possible we’re stuck with an aging veteran player that makes too much money, but that’s not the only potential outcome. Regardless though I hope you take care.
Popular Post DeNiro
When players start to buy in and believe in the direction of the team that’s when something special starts happening. We saw it in 2011, might not be too long before free agents all want to come here. 7
