Same. Might have been the worst year of my life

Tough year for a lot of folks for sure.    Feel bad for the kids that missed out on high school for 2.5 years ... and prom and all of that.    If anything good came out of 2020-2022, is perhaps some resilience was built.    There isn't demographic that didn't find it tough at times, and for sure hockey was a good distraction, league did an incredible job of that for us fans.   On that - i'm sure the players also found it tough.

Dude needs to show he gives a sh$t, and not by slamming his stick or throwing his head back.

I can’t believe management committed so much to a guy like him. Like he’s really the guy you wanna build around for the next 7 years?

Clearly they got blinded by the point totals and were too stubborn to trade him for less than they wanted.

Sure he's feeling the pressure as well.   He wants to win and help his team - but things aren't going his way like last season.

Been saying for a couple years now, the league needs to address the way it does business with its players.   Miller was and still is actually this season, decent-great value, the way it's supposed to be on RFA deals.    Cap percentage wise he's helped give the team a chance for four seasons.    Even pouting and stick smashing etc or whatever anyone wants to call it (pissed off, sour mood, dick, swagger, meanie, childish) he's far from the only guy in the league who gets like this.    Next year his new deal starts as does the trepidation over how that will unfold.    LE is pretty fresh.   So get that too.

As for changing the structure, league needs to get together and work with the NHLPA to create a better product and more balance.   RFAs (Hansen nailed this one) shouldn't be getting deals for doing nothing.    Millers current deal, is a good example of value.    Both RFA and UFA deals need to be reigned back by one year as a start.   The system is broken.   And it's nuts that there isn't some sort of carrot built in for UFAs other than fan/media pressure really.    The Sedins were two of our greatest players ever.   It took them time to gain some traction, and were actually well paid despite this - but weren't given nutty term.   ELC, bridge, one year bridge again, five years then four more at the end.   EACH deal they had to earn and did do that.

Now it's ELC often one boffo season and then 7-8 years lol.  Yikes.   No wonder so many teams are all messed up cap wise.   And no wonder every single team relies on AHL quality players and ELC guys who aren't developed correctly to come in and take the load off.   And that there isn't enough money left to pay solid blue chip NHLers, who belong in this league, properly.   For us that's Hogs/Podz and Schenn.   Because of OEL/Myers/Brock.

EP should be scoring 80-90 points to get good value given he's an RFA.  Brock 30/30 was the bar and now it's 33/33.   Break even bar.   Demko was actually a bit of a steal.   50% less than Luongo's final deal and 75% less than his four year Nonis deal.   But only if he's playing like last season.

There is a reason Vegas and now maybe Seattle, did/doing do well.   A collection of mid tier guys not getting massive pay days.   Vegas moved off their platform, signed AP and traded for Eichel.   Bad idea, ruined something good (thankfully!).

Sports is one of the only private industry jobs that i know of, where your staff can slack off and just collect a cheque.   Without that fear or push or carrot or whatever you want to call it, things go haywire.    20% of the NHLPA gets 80% of the pie, which is fine - but the NHLPA would be better off, as a whole, and the league would be bette off as a whole, to shorten RFA deals - maybe even cap them, and reduce UFA deals as well.  It would add an element of pressure, and that 80% would get a bigger slice of the pie as well.

Another way to do it is create a system that adds based on production.   So in LE's case, because he never came close to actually earning that deal, teams are allowed to penalize his paycheque and bank the cap.    Performance in the real world, is based on production.   Maybe add a flip side, for guys like Schenn who are obviously outperforming their current deals, part of that pie.    Not an actuary or mathematician, but absolutely understand that by rewarding production and penalizing the opposite, it's a recipe for success.

Tough second period.  It is really hard to come back 3-0 against good defensive teams like Calgary who block shots and take the body.
Fortunately, Canucks at least made the game interesting.

Halfway through the season, I think we can conclude the culture of this team needs to improve.- too many half games this season, spotty coverage and blown leads. I have brought up the Bruins before as a good template - a winning culture that demands full effort each game from everyone.  Wish the Canuck players had a similar level of commitment at the start of the year -  they will now need to play  0.625 just to have a playoff shot.  The games will now be much tougher - a grinding in the face style as teams gear up for the post season and less of these loosy-goosy 7-6 games.  Should be an interesting 2023.

Best wishes to everyone for the New Year.

Dreadful 2 losses, I think that sums up the season. Can't break into the playoffs if we lose these 4 point swings. We shouldn't be surprised - no changes, same old team, why would we break through the .500 barrier? Management foolish to think waiting for Dermott will fix all their problems.

This team needs a big shakeup if they want to win now, and a big shakeup if they want to win in the future. Either way, they're still standing pat and sacrificing the season for it.

Tough January schedule coming up may well bounce us back to a .450 team. You see all the .500 teams around us struggling and know they'll blow their teams up.

Yes, they have carried this team all the way to a lottery spot.  Maybe if we are lucky they will carry us all the way to the #1 overall pick.

Actually they’re carrying us away from a lottery spot.

Without Bo and Pettersson on this team; we probably lose an extra 7-10 games. While our PP would be near the bottom of the league. The only reason why we’re staying afloat in the standings.

I was thinking more like healthy scratch. What is the point of all this talk about accountability if Miller can get away with anything with no consequences.

Wonder if they are keeping him in the shopping window?

Hard to trade an $8M player if can't even crack the Canucks line up?

Probably bad advise from Aquilini and others that thought his ”attitude” was best ever as some diehard fans here thinks. Especially those that wanted Ferland real bad and felt bad for the Sedins being gentlemen.

8 mill is a steal for them.

For me 8 mill isn’t bad if you think pointwise.

But I was OK with Loui also :bigblush:

Happy New Year CDC!   Woke up early to watch the game ... yikes.   Guess maybe should go back to bed lol.   Anyways, 2023 - should be a pivotal one.   Bruce's comments "Best players weren't the best players"  enough said.   This team is bouncing back and forth ... when it's on can beat anyone with firepower.   Tough to lose two points to a division rival, it's always nice to beat CAL.

Happy New Year amigo...

Came home from a party, and turned the game on...

How I stayed awake to watch almost 2 periods, I'll never know.

But its now 2023, and here's a toast to new beginnings... except CDC... don't ever change  ::D
