Junkyard Dog
Friedman was on Donnie and Dhali and stated that the cap increase would probably only be 500k to 1M on top of the 1M increase already in place if both sides manage to agree. So 1.5M to 2M.

So 1.5M to 2M. Said it also on his podcast. Says he asked if 3M total could happen and they told him no. On the Jeff Marek Show, discussing the Aho extension (he's going into the last year of his deal), he says that teams were told to expect the cap in a year to be around 87-88M. That would mean possibly 2M this year and about another 2.5M to 3.5M in a year when Pettersson / Hronek are up.

It also takes the pressure off buyout decisions. As the team with the highest cap spending, we seem to benefit the most from this… That didn't seem that way under Jim Benning. He was at his best when he had no cap space to work with imho.

I don't like Bettman but he wants the cap to go up. Its the players that are the ones in control of the escalator and they are also the ones who don't want to pay into escrow. All of it was changed in summer 2020 as part of the CBA MOU. Cap is now increasing according to a formula based on revenue. Before the cap was artificially too high with players then earning much less than their contractual salaries. They've now agreed to try and have it aligned with revenue so to limit escrow.

Can't wait to see how they get out of the Cap mess they compounded themselves. Should be interesting.....
Wolfgang Durst
some people never learn... guess some more draft picks are going to be traded away to create cap space. But hey there are still some fans here defending the Hronek trade. Just look at Dylan Guenther reaching the Memorial Cup final with the Seattle Thunderbirds. The guys in Arizona are still laughing at the vancouver canucks front office. They can't stop laughing at benning and his glorious team. These are the trades that sink an organization.
