[Trade] Kings trade Sean Durzi to Coyotes for 2024 2nd-round pick

Yotes going for the cup!!11!!

In all seriousness it does look like Arizona is finally looking to become relevant.  Wonder if they wouldn't mind Garland back there.

That’s actually a pretty fair price

surprised no one could beat it

Yeah that's a really good deal for ARZ.  Durzi isn't great defensively, but he can certainly play top 4 minutes with the right LHD partner.

If they don't start trying to ice a legit team, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cooley enjoy his time in college and go the UFA route.

That's a heck of a deal for Arizona.. how much better is Hronek then Durzi? Similar age, size, position. Durzi was better in advanced stats but on a much better team. Is Hronek a top 20 pick better?

Arguably, yes.  Durzi is a very offensive D-man who puts points up on the powerplay.  He had a bit of a sophomore slump this year and he is indeed a lesser player than Hronek.  I'm sure Durzi will do fine in Arizona.

He did play on the left side most of the season (great for one-timers I guess).  Only LA would have an overabundance of RDs.  They've got Spence and Clarke lined up at RD too.

Clearing cap for PLD? Seriously though they only 16 players signed and $9m in cam space.  They’d have to move a lot more cap to make a PLD trade work

LA has their own in-house beat writer.  He writes:

[Durzi] is, however, in the same mold as both Spence and Clarke, as an offensively gifted, right-shot defenseman. The Kings believe in both Clarke and Spence and this move signals that they feel one of those players can fill the role Durzi vacated, which likely points to third-pairing minutes and second power-play duty, for half the space against the salary cap.

Surprised the Kings couldn't get more for Durzi. 40 point right-shot defenseman who, although not a shutdown D, has PK experience, can play both sides, and is only 24. You'd think he should have been a hot commodity.

Refer to my post above.

He was probably worth a laste first round pick in normal circumstances.  But what's the REAL hot commodity right now?  Cap space.

That’s insane if his modest $1.7M cap hit depressed his value to a 2024 2nd…appreciate he’ll be due a raise in another season, but still….wow

Yup, that's why the teams that are in major cap hell this offseason (Bruins, Flames, etc) are gonna get absolutely fleeced when they make their trades to dump cap.
