He's our easiest guy to trade due to the balance remaining on his deal. All things being equal, I'd keep him till the deadline, but if Pearson is back, we'd need someone else to go down on LTIR before the start of the season to make that work. Now, if it was Myers who went down for 3 - 4 months on LTIR, that could really work out well for us as his value would go up significantly around the deadline. There are 4 teams in the league that can currently fit him under their cap without looking at LTIR. We would need to take back a contract or LTIR player from anyone else which would kind of defeat the purpose. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Mik miss preseason and be on IR for day 1 cap purposes. Rare we get of camp without an injury too. Worst deal PA has made was the one he made to get us under the cap last year. Hopefully better showing this year. He made a nice recovery though getting a decent asset for Stillman.

Sharpshooter
I’m good with this. Seems like a great decision. Petey didn’t need the added pressure and I hope it frees him up mentally and then also productively. 1 2

Salacious Crumb
Great player. Not my choice for captain. it feels forced, like the Luongo captaincy. Like they named Quinn captain in a bid to tether him to the franchise a bit more to keep New Jersey from poaching him. My other thought is that this is a tell. That Petey is not long for Vancouver after this season. I’ll still cheer for him and this team, but something is off about this whole thing. 2
Popular Post viking mama
Hmmm…processing this. Elias, is the quieter & more introverted superstar, with pivotal maybe even controversial new contract negotiations looming. He does not need the burden of the captaincy upon him, in that case, not one iota. Giving his good buddy Quinn the captaincy may even cement any desires to remain, if/when competing offers pour in for his services, should his contract not be re-negotiated &/or extended by then. Miller should be the mature elder statesman of this group, but his feisty emotions cause his own teammates to bristle, at times. He’s a wonderful asset but on-ice inconsistency & that generous contract put him under even greater scrutiny & pressure, if captain, too. Should he faulter, a trade could most definitely happen. However, we are all very eager to see if this workhorse has the staying power of other star-players or not. I whole-heartedly hope so, because Miller is often so clutch & definitely one of my favorites. Quinn is wise beyond his years, well-spoken & very well-connected in the hockey world. He’ll be an excellent team-spokesperson by being diplomatic, passionate, respectful, always looking for ways to improve the team & become more physically & knowledgeably prepared himself. The model player both on & off the ice! He will be a star-player in this league, for a good long while,…knock on wood, please! And, if things should ever take a turn financially or otherwise for the NJ Devils state-side, over the next decade, perhaps the other Hughes brothers may consider VanCity as an alternate landing spot for themselves & their families. The Devils must know we’ll surely take ‘em! Quinn’s happiness matters. Petey’s happiness matters. Miller is a special veteran player pushing for a SCup, here, there or anywhere…but I hope all 3 remain an important part of the leadership group that parades the Stanley Cup through our streets...& that I witness that! Cheers & best wishes to our newest Captain Canuck! Huggy Bears rule! Edited September 12, 2023 by viking mama 3
