I would prefer 4.6 for a guy that had a good year on Florida, than 3.8 for a guy who has never played an NHL game in his life.

crossing my fingers we move Malhotra and Ballard to clear some more cap space and take a run at Parise or Suter.

Honestly CDC is pathetic.

Gillis doesn't sign anyone = OMG Worst GM ever!

Gillis signs someone = OMG Worst signing ever! Overpayment!

Be happy or just don't say anything at all. STFU crybabies!

Garrison outscored Ehrhoff this year.
Garrison is a bigger body who defends better.
Garrison had a better 2nd season than Ehrhoff's first three.
Ehrhoff has never scored 16 goals.
Garrison did that with Campbell, but on the extremely low scoring Panthers.
Garrison is a cooler cat than Ehrhoff and likely had better $$offer$$.
Ehrhoff said he left to win a Cup.
Garrison wanted to play here and he's a home boy.
I got my Garrison blinders on right now - I have no problem with this deal.

Amen brotha.

Additionally Ehrhoff and Garrison play different roles. Coaches have to 'shelter' Ehrhoff, meaning he always plays against weak competition -- high ozone starts, can only play on right side etc. Garrison plays against top lines every night and does it very well. He also can play on right or left side. Given Canucks injury issues every yr, his versatility is his biggest asset.

The more I think about it, the less excited I am about this. Obviously Gillis had to give up the longer term to get the lower cap hit. Same routine as with Luo.

This to a guy that is already turning 28, and has one good year playing with Brian freaking Campbell.

Very risky.

Yeah the term is a little tough to swallow but it's not like it's a 10 yr deal for $64m.

Mikey is learning. ::D

Garrison left $ on table - was offered "Wideman money" elsewhere - but wanted to play for hometown VAN, which held firm on internal $ scale.

Awesome!

YES. Everyone who said MG doesnt make bold moves, or he is indecisive.....

Garrison.

Edit: First you all bash him for doing nothing, now bash him for getting something done.

This signing makes up for losing Salo's point shot.. This kid can hammer the puck as hard or if not harder, I was watching some youtube videos of him earlier in the week and he's got a lazer, he will be on the #1 PP Unit for sure.

You can't say Gillis doesn't have brass stashed in his fruit of the looms. He certainly has no problem making moves that media and fans could rail on him over.

Too be honest, this is rather cheap for DMen at FA time.

Also, Gillis has not laid down his last card yet, stay tuned.

You have to realize this board is full of high-schoolers who don't know much about anything yet. that's why you gotta treat this board not as a real discussion, but just skim it for the news items. Otherwise you will waste your time driving yourself insane.

Stop with the fire MG calls already, it just makes you look foolish.

Bottom line is we are replacing Salo's slapshot with a younger (hopefully less injury prone) version. The hit isnt really that big considering the other signings today. And there are so many facets of these deals that we don't see.

Stop expecting every single big player on the market will get signed here because its just simply not true. I personally don't want to see too much change as back to back presidents and a stanley cup final appearance are good to build on. MG knows what he is doing, the arm chair GMing is getting out of control on these boards...

finally adding a piece to our team to make it better rather then losing players. Realistically we got 1 of the 2 guys we were hoping to get. I'm a little more relaxed now

Nice to see he took a bit of a hit and that he still signed even though we held our ground :)

Well I for one am glad we got him at this price... The losers of the Ryan Suter sweepstakes would have turned straight to Jason and the price wouldve skyrocketed! Thankfully he took a hometown discount when he knew he could make more money elsewhere, later in free agency. Classy move. I expect a lot from you

Jensen > Kassian
Gillis dropped the ball on the Hodgson trade.
If Kassian ever becomes a 30 goal scorer I will pierce my nipples.

Well,Gillis underpaid Salo for years and then over paid Bieksa.

The team than had to secure a potential top 4 d man and Garrison wanted to come here, anyways.

If Ballard is healthy and plays a full season he will be full value for his paycheque.

Time to ease Connaughton or Sauve in and the d corps is set.

6 year contract buddy. Garrison hasn't done jack, basically fed off Brian Campbell in Florida.
* I'd wait before jumping on his bandwagon as he really shouldn't be earning 27.6 million for one solid season.

\if he can do it with campbell, he can do it with edler.

The deal was done at 9 am.
Gillis and Garrison decided to wait to announce, made up a rumour about 6.5 and floated it out there.
They sat at the pool, cracked a couple of Lucky lagers, turned on the laptop, and tracked the whims of CDC.
After hours of laughing their asses off, they concluded that this was a good initiation for Garrison to the fanbase in Vancouver.
Welcome to the Canucks Jason.
