*Official* CBA Negotiations and Lockout Thread

Recommended Posts

Seems to me Bettman didn't like Fehr's first press conference and is making a statement.. What the hell is the point to start pulling things you've offered off the table that you just offered this week. It's not like we're another month into the lockout and they have to change numbers to account for losses.

If Bettman didn't like the proposal you go back the next day and say what you don't like about it and counter with something else. Basically as soon as the hard ass is let back in, all the progress(wich was the most we've had) is pulled off the table and back to square one. This is 200% counter productive.

It's like the NHL didn't actually intend to get a deal done, only to get the PA to think they were actually negotiating so they would offer additional concessions in the interest of getting a deal done that the NHL could use as their new starting "you have to give up more from here" point for the next round of "negotiating" until they get the deal they originally wanted. Isn't that basically what happened during the last "productive" sessions?

This is really bringing out my (previously undiscovered) sailor ancestry.

The nhl and the owners should be careful what they wish for. They might think 5 year max contracts sound like a good idea, and on the surface they are, as they protect them from a 10, 12, 15 year contract on an investment that is far from being a guarantee. But what about when Sidney Crosby walks away from Pittsburgh after a 5 year deal, what if Stamkos, Giroux, Tavares do the same?

The owners are going to handcuff themselves so much that they are going to regret it after they start losing these superstar players that they invested signifcant time and development in. 7 or 8 year max contracts makes more sense for both sides.

The owners are a bunch of babies. If the NHLPA counters and it's different than what they wanted, they just cut off talks, just like that?

It's pretty clear who wants to play hockey and who doesn't. The NHL is way too quick to just quit and cancel more games. Such a bad negotiating tactic on their part.

Why is contract length even a huge issue for them. Owner's already have the power to control contract length...

Apparently $300 make whole and 10 year CBA length and other things are interrelated, not separate from other issues. Apparently Fehr plucked those out put them in his back pocket and attempted to get owners to move on other things.

Even TSN host and ex player is agreeing this is what's going. His excuse is NHL did similar thing in 05 with 24% roll back.
