[Report] Subban seeking $8.5 M in arbitration, Habs offer $5.25 M

Recommended Posts

You people are seriously over reacting here. You're mistaking the number they've submitted to the arbitrator with the numbers they're negotiating with for a long term deal.

First off, this will likely never get to arbitration, but if it does it follows the script of the team coming in low and the player coming in high.

Second, remember this is for one year only. The team smartly elected a 1 year deal so Subban will still be an RFA if it does go to arbitration.

Bergevin and Subban's agent are working on a long term deal. If I had to guess I'd say it gets signed tomorrow and it'll be 8 years with a cap hit of 8-8.5 M

It's insane that we live in a world where 5.25 million dollars a year is considered an "insult"

These are the same people that complain about lockouts.

Just because one GM decides to give a Letang 7 million, doesn't mean another should. That's how lockouts happen.

Just an example of the process. With Eller he was looking for $3.1M on a 1 year deal from the arbitrator, Montreal submited an offer of $1.65M to the arbitrator. Despite those numbers they agreed on a 4 year deal with an AVV of 3.5M

Moral of the story, the offer submitted to the arbitrator is meaningless in the actual negotiation

That's just an insult to PK. If I were him I'd command even more if that actually was offered (although more money for PK won't help with depth).

Karlsson and Letang are comparable contracts. Dynamic defenders who aren't elite defensively like Keith, Weber, Suter, etc.

Habs playing a stupidly dangerous game dicking around one of the league's best defensemen.

That offer is insulting, honestly. This will definitely sit in the back of P.K.'s mind when he goes to arbitration and when he decides to sign (or not sign) his next contract and when he inevitably goes to UFA status (at least it's looking like it will go that way).

I really don't understand Bergevin's line of reasoning. What is he trying to accomplish? Absolutely ridiculous.

Truer words have seldom been spoken .. he will remember.

This is simply being referred to numbers in today's NHL. Obviously not real world examples.

Yes it's sad that pro athletes make millions while many essential, heavily relied on jobs get scraps. However, this is how things are.

So, Gardiner is worth $4.05 million and the Habs are offering $1.2 million more for a guy who already has won the Norris Trophy, put up 53 points in 82 games last season and just entering into his prime? If Letang is worth $7.25 million, then Subban is definitely worth in the $7.5-8.5 million range.

Didn't Edler get 50 points just getting into his prime? Sure glad you never were around to give him 7.5-8.5M.

What many of you fail to realize is that Subban is a defensive liability and not chosen to play for Team Canada in any of the games because of it.

Him winning the Norris trophy was a mistake

it's supply and demand. 5.25 mil a year is an insult when you can make 7 mil a year.

10 bucks usd an hour is consider a lot in some third world country, how would you l ike your boss to offer you that wage when you can earn 20 bucks an hour? Same thing.

In the world where Dubinsky can earn 5.8 mil a year, 5.25 mil a year is a fucking insult to a 25 years old norris winner.

a lot of people here have no clue how arbitration works.

This, but then most people don't know the difference between RFA and UFA years either. Its much easier to overreact and compare Dennis Wideman's caphit to this offer than read up on how the arbitration process works.
