If Gaudette gets dropped that will go against the integrity of the preseason and training camp. He is leaps and bounds better than some of the other bubble players in Jake and Goldy (not to mention the overpaid pile of poo Eriksson).

no it doesn't.........people take that stuff way to literal.  Plenty of teams have sent players down for waiver exemption reasons.  Sucks for AG if it happens, but players understand the ramifications of the cap world.

Hoping, opening night:

Ferland - Pettersson - Boeser

Baertschi - Horvat - Miller

Pearson - Gaudette - Sutter

Leivo - Beagle - Virtanen

Edler - Myers

Hughes - Tanev

Benn - Stecher

Rafferty

I'd switch Baertschi and Pearson, and Motte instead of Virtanen.

(And Rafferty is already in Utica, so Biega will be the sitting 7th)

Rafferty has already been sent down.

Baertschi seems to have good chemistry with Gaudette, so might as well stick with that for now.

Cannot believe how worked up some people get over training camp/pre-season. Do these people think Edler is about to lead the league in scoring ? Or that Jayson Megna is a 40 goal scorer ? I don't think it would be terrible for Gaudette to go to Utica and continue to build his confidence. If he tears it up for 10 games- or less - you can always recall him at a later date. I think that would be preferable to starting him in the NHL and possibly having a not-so-good start and it extinguishing that confidence.

established players ease into the pre-season and then turn their game up once the reg season starts.  Guys like AG and ZM are tuned in from day one because they are fighting to get noticed.

Remember when Stecher was sent down despite having an excellent camp? Injuries happened and he hasn't looked back since. Gaudette may have "earned" a spot, but the team can still decide if they need more time to clear up the space to do so. I still think he will be sent down until an injury/trade occurs giving him the spot to takeover and then he likely sticks from then on assuming he continues his work ethic to hold the spot.

I agree, but I think that it’s wrong.

Worth a look. But I still personally believe that we will be sending down Gaudette still until we trade Sutter or an injury occurs.

I agree that’s the most likely scenario, but does that give us the best team and best chance to win?

When we finally have the depth to go this route of "asset management", it's a positive sign for the team.

I'd love to see a venn diagram of those now preaching "he earned it" and those crying about asset management a cpl seasons ago.

Weisbrod mentioned we may see a veteran player who might surprise us hit the waiver wire.

Could be Loui. Could it also be Sutter? If Sutter got claimed it would free up 4.35m in cap space.

Eriksson does not deserve to be with this club,. He can go and work on reinventing himself in Utica.

Guadette is the exact opposite,. You can not hold back a race horse that wants to race..

playing at the NHL level IS crucial for his development now, not Utica.

was I the only one who saw a look of disbelief in Greens eyes after some of Erikssons shifts?

the game has exited his mind and body.

Great a 15 million forth line

Beagle and Sutter are good players and the type of players this team needs.

Sutter is a 3rd line player. The only reason he plays on the 4th is because, for the first time in almost a decade, we have depth. So making a blanket statement moaning about an expensive 4th line just shows a lack of understanding imo.

However, we all agree the Loui contract is a boat anchor.

Asset management trumps performance.

Up until about a week ago I would have agreed with you 100%.

But the way Gaudette has shown he can contribute to team offense, I no longer think that is the case with him.  If the Canucks keep him up and they end up losing either Schaller or Goldy on waivers, does it even matter?

I would say No. There is other depth in Utica to call up if required.

Don't get me wrong. I would prefer it if both Schaller and Goldy got waived and both made it to Utica. They can continue to work on their games and come back up when injuries occur.

Waive Baer?

Boys with new toys... you guys think Leivo and Pearson are1st/2nd liners? Theres a reason they were in the doghouse and we got them for cheap... I would be happy if they can keep it up, but I'm not sold. Neither has a higher ceiling than Baer

Baer and Gaudette have totally clicked offensively.

We know Green said he wanted strong pairs so now he has:

Petey / Boeser

Horvat / JT Miller

Baer / Gaudette

Extra offense is exactly what this team has needed in forever. Early on in pre season I thought Baer really would have to prove himself again due to all the team depth. He has totally done that and we need him.
