Canucks 2022 Young Stars Tourney Thread
flat land fish replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
There’s not a lot of name value on the d side of the ledger for the baby Canucks which probably has more to do with our stronger d prospects being in Europe. Good chance for Woo to take on leadership with that group -
Met him at a pr event the ufc put on in town. Genuine guy, tough outcome RIP

Berrios has been in poor form game 3 would be stripling for sure -
[Signing] Senators re-sign Tim Stutzle
flat land fish replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It’s a different dynamic than what the Canucks have done with most of their young guys in terms of bridging them. The Canucks can still sign 8 year deals when the players peak whereas the sens will have a ufa at the end. In a small market I can see why they grabbed the 8 year commitment. -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
flat land fish replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He’s strong on the faceoff dot but tends to take lots of high risk plays offensively and turns the puck over a lot. The Sedins were way more dominant players in their peak than Miller to the point the other team rarely had the puck when they were on the ice. Miller’s a big dude think it’s fair to question how he will fair when he loses a step Father Time is undefeated. If this group of players are going deep in the playoffs it’s probably petey horvat and hughes leading the charge. -
I think they run small rosters ie 3 lines so lots of action. A more legitimate echl to develop new graduates from chl before progressing to the ahl might help North American prospects

These repete puns…… keep them coming on repete. Kid looks like a player every Pettersson in Sweden will be naming their child Elias.

Rooting for Rathbone this year, of our prospects he’s the next one that could be a difference maker and in our biggest area of need. What improvements are needed for this player to be a regular member of the starting lineup?

Winger version of Horvat with big contributions on the defensive side of the puck is what I see.
-
Real good young player but would need a big lift in offensive creativity to become the teams top winger. In terms of becoming one of the teams best all around players in the next 2-3 seasons factoring in defensive impacts that I can see. Probably will be a better real life player than fantasy hockey superstar

So the benning drafted prospects that could still make the nhl over the next 2-3 years will that be development program or would have happened anyway?
-
Might also beg the question is the chl a good development league/path? Once a player is drafted they tend to have physical advantages over their opponents where as ncaa and European players play against competition older than them. I would argue that improvement is made in either needing to play smarter against advanced competition, improvements to skill to gain advantage and identify physical development to compete against older competition. Tough things for chl environment to make improvements on. Chl is also heavily scouted more so than other leagues so fewer diamonds in the rough.

You need to earn your minutes whether in nhl or ahl or you should be playing in a lesser league. You improve your skill in training and practice not so much in game. You need to outplay the incumbents who for various reasons aren’t nhl caliber in their own right.

The whole article seems hopetimistic to me. It seems they don’t know the source of the headaches and there’s a lack of certainty about ramping up to 100 percent. All the best for the player but tough to plan around him being a factor.

The Hypocrisy in the Media and the Fanbase about the New Regime

Doesn’t the spend on mikheyev fit the impulsive narrative? We need to fix defense and they spent what little cap we have on another forward?( I do like the player) -
[Trade] Monahan, 1st to Montreal
flat land fish replied to AngryElf's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It’s a pretty massive risk considering the prize this year. Nobody thought much of Vegas missing last year and Calgary will need to find chemistry amongst all the changes. Now I do think laden and huberdeau are better 2 way players than the two that left so they are probably second favourite in the division after Edmonton if not #1. -

Any word if pick is lottery protected? -
I guess your trying to project who is the better player 5 years from now. Lekkerimaki needs to get bigger and stronger. Against the US looked like he struggled in board battles and needed about another half gear to gain separation speed with the puck on his stick. Hopefully playing against peers in this environment motivates the player on areas needing improvement.

Robin Lehner to miss entire 2022-23 season

They still need a starting goalie. -
Probably flip Pearson and hoglander and your pretty close. May also see Dickinson on the 4th line as well. We have some serious forward depth.

What a mess Vegas is. Seems like Karma -
Our defense isn’t as bad as is bandied about by the pundits or our fan base. Our puck possession in the attacking zone is the area requiring the biggest improvement.

Hardest skill to find in hockey is goal scoring, looks like we got a good one.
