Would you rather have had Bergeron or Datsyuk on your team (2 of the best defensive forwards I've seen in my life time)?
-
Interesting fact - the 3 teams that beat the Canucks in a SCF all lost in this years first round!
-
Thinking back on it, Gillis really should have just given Willie Mitchell the two-year deal he wanted. Then we could have saved the assets from the Keith Ballard trade and used them elsewhere.

[Proposal] First overall pick to the Canucks
-
Leo Carlsson reminds me of Sundin. He'd be a great pickup. With Forsberg 2.0 in Petey and Carlsson as a Sundin 2.0, that's great depth down the middle. It would be great if we had more than one first rounder to build up our defensive depth.
Tampa has a pretty strong backend so we could Cal Foote come available. If so, it's due time that we pried him out of there. I'd offer up Hoglander. Might be an overpayment but IDC we need Foote he's the perfect partner for Hughes going forward. They're even in the same age group.
But yeah, we slide in at 3rd overall and take Leo, we won't regret it.

Were Gorton/Hughes the guys who drafted Lafrenierre? Now in Montreal they pick Slafkovski. Two bustaroos
-
Bad contracts for Bad contracts.
Garland for Josh Anderson
Boeser for Anthony Mantha
We get bigger, faster, harder to play against.
-
Hoping Torts lands in Florida. Would absolutely love it.
-
Rathbone needs more time in the AHL. Hunt + Burroughs next game please.
-
Our D is like swiss-cheese.
Is there any D via trade available? Certainly not in free agency. Will the Devils be willing to dangle Subban and if so, will they retain 50%? That would probably cost a 2nd or maybe a 3rd round draft pick.
The best candidate to acquire is Arizona's Anton Stralman, who is perfectly capable of covering Hughes or Rathbone. Stralman is a veteran and we just don't have the luxury of sending Rathbone down to the AHL, we need him to be a regular here. At 50% retained, we use the Hamonic suspension space + Brad Hunt + a 3rd round pick in 2023, that'll be enough to get Stralman and boy do we need him.
We've got TWO elite lefties who can cover for Rathbone's mistakes. Once Hughes gets back in his groove, we won't need to replace Rathbone because he'll be playing easy minutes. But on the right side, with Hamonic gone and with an already relative thinness at the position, it makes sense to acquire Stralman who is a veteran with experience on playoff teams and with young defensemen. He probably should've been in the OEL trade, but it would've been too big a trade.

Watching Seattle getting pounded by Philly 5-1. Lind is struggling. When Seattle puts Lind on waivers do we put in a claim?
-
Who is going to finish higher in the standings Vancouver Canucks or Abbotsford Canucks, in their respective leagues?
-
Abbotsford or Vancouver? Idk. Probably Vancouver unless our prospects do very well. They're being insulated well. Plasek? Will he be good? Woo? Can he be a top 2 defender in the AHL, as part of his eventual transition to the NHL. Carson Focht and Will Lockwood? Can they be good? Lockwood is probably a 0.5PPG guy in the AHL and Focht is probably a second or third line center. Then there's Michael DiPietro. He's their starter. Can he backstop the team to a successful season?

Devils are going to have an ugly year. Very soft team, with crappy goaltending. They will struggle to get 70 points. Heisher and Hughes might be the worst 1, 2 centres on the league. Just a bad club all around.
-
Alf what are you saying man. For RHD, the Devils are one of the deepest teams. Down the middle, they're pretty solid as well. Zacha, Hischier and Hughes? Good stuff. We've got Pettersson, Horvat and Dickinson which is pretty comparable. They're better on D than us, I'd say we have a better second line and we're better in goal. Also on the wings, they don't have a Hoglander or a Garland. You've got to be fair and balanced man.

any support for a guy who got a suprise tooth extraction and had to forcibly quit smoking in the same day?
Im on the patch and painkillers and went through my 1500$ dental benefits and had pay 600$ out of pocket.
The hygenist said i didnt scream so I was doing good, lol.
the thing that really pains me is the smoking is how i got in this mess in the first place, I really hope i can stick with it, I don't want to lose my bone graft to a stinking smoke.
Don't smoke kids, and floss or use a waterpik which works for me

how about poolman and a pick to carokina for ethan bear?
-
Poolman looks to be a tier or maybe two below Tanev.
@King Heffy Marco Sturm wasn't signed to be traded. He was traded because he didn't put up the numbers we expected him too so we brought Booth in to replace him. Booth sucked and we had to buy him out, end of story.

Benning has wanted PK Subban in the past and was blocked by Bergevin. If the Devils want to land Dougie Hamilton they will want to create cap space and lighten their books. Van needs a heavy proven top 4 d men who can play an abrasive shutdown game to partner Hughes. This is your chance Benning to finally land PK Subban...

Arizona has a pretty good plan in place right now for the first time in forever. Tank for Connor Bedard and Shane Wright and use them to coax Auston Matthews to leave the Maple Leafs and play in the desert. Hometown superstar coming home to save the franchise that introduced him to hockey is a good plan for a franchise facing yet another rebuild after accomplishing nothing for the past decade.
-
Detroit doesn't need Bedard or Wright. They'll draft someone who is just as good that fits in there core, likely a European player that isn't on anyone's radar. Look at what Yzerman did in Tampa, nabbing guys like Point and Kucherov out of the first round. Arizona needs a superstar, they thought they were getting one in Strome and they had to salvage what was left of the asset and got Schmaltz for him. Schmaltz turned out to a far superior player on a great contract, so I think if Arizona wants to go scorched Earth then they can.
For next years' draft, I say Wright goes Arizona, Seattle picks second, Columbus at third, Buffalo at fourth and Nashville at fifth. We'll keep our pick, which you'd have to hope would be in the late teens of the first. If they trade our first, I'll hit the roof. I don't see Matthews signing in Arizona when his contract expires, I think he'll stay in Toronto under an even more grossly-overpaid contract. Matthews hasn't won anything and he's not the best player in the world, I'd say he should be getting $9M instead of $11.6M. By the time Matthews is a UFA, Arizona will either be in Houston or they'll be one of the best young teams in the league or BOTH.

The market is all over the place today. At this point I'm expecting a top 4 RHD for Holtby and a 36 year old 4th line winger for our 9th overall.
-
I think a 3rd round pick for Holtby would be a great return, as long as we're only retaining $1 Million. Schmidt could probably fetch a 2nd, I don't think it's worth trading him honestly unless we need the money. Virtanen won't get anything and we don't have anything else to trade. If we could get something for Virtanen, I'd ask for a 3rd or 4th round pick.
If we get offered a first for Schmidt though, we take it even if it's after 25OV. We need to get as many young players into this organization so when our vets regress or can't play at all we've got a good replacement. We only have five draft picks this year, we haven't picked in the first round for two consecutive years and now that we've made our big move it's time to be conservative.

think canucks should go after Jujhar Khaira to fill out the bottom 6?
-
Looking back at our draft history... our drafting/development was awful!
-
Spoiler Alert:
Kraken have picked Alex Kerfoot from Toronto!
-
This Montreal team has a lot of similarities to the 2012 LA Kings Stanley cup team.
-
Montreal could easily get knocked off by the Lightning but they've made it this far. I don't know if they'll win or not, and I should be cheering for them because they're a Canadian team but I'd rather someone else wins, not Tampa, and that's the only option but if the Islanders or the Knights were still in it I'd be cheering for the Knights.

Does McDavid end up in NY with the rangers at some point in his career?
-
@Patel Bure McDavid's work ethic blows Messier out of the water. And by far, McDavid is a far more dominant player in a much harder era to score. I see McDavid being the first player in a long time to register 150 points in a season, maybe even next year if the Oilers can retain RNH, add more depth, improve their defense and get rid of some bad contracts.
Plus they've got Jesse Puljujarvi, so I think if they put Draisaitl-McDavid-Puljujarvi as their top line next year all of a sudden they've got the best line in the league with some solid secondary scoring from RNH, Yamamoto and they've got a solid prospect in Dylan Holloway who can probably step in and play next year.

Craig Button has LA picking Luke Hughes at 8th, and the Canucks picking Kent Johnson at 9th.
His list of NHL comparables for each pick is also very interesting.

If Nugent-Hopkins goes to free agency, I hope the Canucks make a strong pitch. I think it would be great for the Canucks to have him as a 3rd line center. Though, it will be tough to swing, cap-wise.
