aGENT
May as well tank for a top 10 pick then. At least we can get something of value if this team isn't going to make the playoffs.... And I can tell you they aren't with the players they have right now and how good the other teams are in the west. They need a top 6 scorer. If they don't get a guy who can score on the rush, get 30ish goals a season consistently, they're done. Some key injuries with a team or two above us in the standings and we get healthy and gel/get hot heading in to the playoffs and we could still do some damage. We're still a competitive team in the top 1/3 of the league IMO (even if no longer "favourites"). That said, if we're on the outside looking in come the trade deadline I could see Gillis become a major seller for a mini-rebuild this summer. He's rolling the dice this year basically IMO. If we're looking to make the dance he'll maybe make some minor moves to bolster the bottom 6 while not selling the farm. If we don't, he gets as many (younger) assets as he can for the spare parts on the roster.

Trebreh
Gillis on trades: "I wanna see our full team play together. I'd like to see our team a little bit more before we start jumping the gun." -team1040 Guess 2.5 years hasn't been enough time to see this team, before making a trade And all that while, teams have traded for top 6 forwards, while we are still on the 'process' of finding one. canuck2xtreme
All the doom and gloom, but the Canucks have been losing games they should have won. Pretty much zero puck luck in the early part of the season. But they've been right there in most games, and in some they've been the better team on the ice for the vast majority of the game. The Canucks have been playing well and just not getting the results. The truth is we're just not as good as we were before, but we're not as bad as a lot of doom and gloomers would have you believe. Not doom and gloom. Just being realistic. The other teams in the west are too good to be able to keep up with without a consistent top 6 forward. This team is full of 3rd/4th line two way forwards and grinders. This team has 3 real top sixers and a fringe one in Burrows (3rd liner without the Sedins). This team has way too much money in defense that is massively underachieving right now.

Hyzer
If we ain't making playoffs or at least squeaking in 8th to get dominated by a team like Anaheim or Boston, might as well tank to be honest. Dal Colle looks like a sick prospect anyway.

Warhippy
Why can people not just come to grips with the fact that this is not our year? Any action made towards making the playoffs this year will only hurt this team in the long run. Movable pieces on our roster that will net a high return and give us decent cap space. Edler Kesler Burrows Hamhuis Booth All of these guys will garner us $4+ million in cap space and or net us a solid return of picks/prospects. Booth just cap space. But then think of this, to get that return you really want. that top 6 playmaker, top 6 sniper, puck moving defenceman you are packaging the aforementioned players with Gaunce Grenier Horvat Shinkaruk Subban Corrado So once you total it all together, you're really clamouring for Gillis to give up, key pieces on our roster PLUS key prospects in our system who could very well fill the roles you want filled as early as next season. And or picks as well. This is not our year, Buffalo/Islanders trade set the price for solid players very high and any more we make to "get better for the playoffs" is only going to be significant subtraction by subtraction. Be patient, calm down. There are solid UFA's out there, there will indeed be players moved soon; it is inevitable and our prospects are our future. Let the team get fully accustomed to Torts' style fo play let the market calm down and follow that canucks Fans famous mantra of "next year"

Warhippy
NTC's man... And if this isn't our year then the next 5 won't be either. Oh NTC's...cause they never get waived? Calm down, breathe have some Oolong tea. There is no way this is our year. If we make the playoffs, do you see this team coming out of a 6-7 game series against San Jose, St Louis, LA Anaheim or Chicago and capably being able to beat any of the remaining teams in yet another 6 or 7 game series? You really think packaging Edler or Kesler with one of our best prospects for a rental or a 26 year old who has hit their ceiling is the way to get us over the top? There are so many strange occurences this year. New coaches after forever, new division, cap hit issues, no rookies in our line up, new farm team and greatly increased conference competition. We need to live or die by the roster we currently have. Why give up a lot to get a little? If we are a bubble team by trade deadline day, we need to offload players for large return, not the other way around. This is the first year in a long time we have been in this situation and it will be for the better. Accept the fact that this team is not the team to win us a cup and move on because unlike edmonton, Calgary, Florida and many other teams the future for us is very bright
Silfverberg Snipes
He wants to wait till next year when our prospects make the jump. At least one NTC is gone this offseason. I'm calling Hamhuis or Higgins.

You're missing my point. Nobody was talking this way after October when the Canucks were rolling. They've had a miserable stretch in November and they're under the gun to get back in it, absolutely. What I'm saying is a bounce here or there last month and these topics don't exist. Things will turn around, we'll start getting those bounces and closing out those games where we're the superior team for 58 minutes of it. The law of averages will sway back in our favor. Our power play will start burying chances on a more regular basis. Burrows will score a goal or two. Do they need to add more scoring punch to the 2nd line? Obviously. Have the Canucks dug themselves a hole? Yes they have. It is going to be tough to catch up? Definitely. Are the Canucks capable of doing it? Absolutely. Herberts Vasiljevs
The problem with the core is we have 1 to many top 4 left d and have a need for a top 6 forward, and this hasn't been addressed. I'm most concern about this teams ability to score in the playoffs. This has been a serious problem since the Boston series. Scoring is my only issue heading into potential playoff hockey. Defence is okay. Goaltending is entirely up to Luongo. He's got it in him. + having Lack ain't the worst backup possibility.

Accept the fact that this team is not the team to win us a cup and move on because unlike edmonton, Calgary, Florida and many other teams the future for us is very bright Hey, can anyone divulge what is the fine details of the NTC's we have in place? For example the Twins have full No Movement Clauses? Bieksa a "Full" NTC? Higgins a "limited" NTC? All according to Cap Geek. I personally believe one of Higgins, Burrows or Hansen (my choice) would make a great deadline pick up for a contending team. And just a subtle jolt to our core, which would both send a useful message and return good assets. So, for example in Higgins case I believe he can list a range of teams he does not wish to go to, but is more or less open book on the balance? And Hansen has no such NTC anyway... Can anyone confirm??? Or a nice piece, packaged with Jensen or Gaunce and a pick to grab a solid young sniper or puck moving D. Read that solid, and young, not short term fix!
