sam13371337
I guess when you have no SC wins to celebrate, you gotta celebrate the misses. Very true. but what made the 94 team so memorable was the underdogs with a never say die attitude. that team had heart and deserves to be remembered. personally speaking, Id rather forget about the 2011 team. perhaps we would have been better off in the long term had Chicago got 1 more goal and exposed the team for the chokers they were earlier; and forced gillis' hand. its been nothing but lethargic, frustrating, boring hockey ever since. gillis and the players have been milking that 1 run for all its worth. underachieving chokers before and after that
King Heffy
How about you cheer the game? Celebrate that? As others also have said, there are a lot of good memories connected to that team/era. I don't care what Montreal does, I'm in Vancouver. Many are brought together in an alumni way for various events/reasons and there's really nothing to be negative about. If you don't care, don't go. Don't come in the thread throwing negativity around and spamming with nonsense. Well said. While it may not mean anything to those too young to remember (and I'm not), there's a large group of people I'm sure it means a lot to: The players who accepted the invitation. These guys are in their 40's and 50's. That doesn't seem old, but in a group of that sample size, we might not have too long before they CAN'T all get together as a group. It's a tribute to how much these guys care about each other that so many said yes to the invitation, even guys who weren't here long or had a small role on the team. TheRussianRocket.
http://thecanuckway.com/2014/02/20/report-canuckssenators-alumni-game-nhl-heritage-classic/ There won’t be an alumni game at the 2014 NHL Heritage Classic between the Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators, according to the TEAM 1040′s Jeff Paterson. The 2011 Heritage Classic game between Calgary Flames and Montreal Canadiens featured an alumni game, an AHL game between the two team’s minor league affiliates (the Oklahoma City Barons and Abbotsford Heat), and a WHL game between the Calgary Hitmen and Regina Pats. Alumni games have been staples of the NHL Winter Classic and Heritage Classic, but it won’t be happening at BC Place @ewales no alumni game. No other games of any kind (junior/university/minor hockey) at BC Place due to tight timelines. — Jeff Paterson (@patersonjeff) February 7, 2014 According to BC Place’s events calendar, the BC Home and Garden Show 2014 is being held there between February 19th and 23rd with move out on the 24th. Setup for the March 2nd Heritage Classic will last five days between February 25th and March 1st. Move out will happen between March 3rd and 5th. A conversion to a soccer field will happen on March 6 and 7th for a March 8th Major League Soccer game between the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and New York Red Bulls. This leaves no time for any other events to be held at the BC Place rink. No alumni game, but there will be a reunion of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals team at the Heritage Classic. The NHL and Vancouver Canucks will mark the 20th anniversary of the 1994 team’s memorable run and magical Playoff moments during the 1:00 p.m. PT Canucks vs. Ottawa Senators® game. Well that sucks. Somewhat cool that they're bringing the '94 team but pretty pathetic considering it's just a sub for not having an alumini game. Sucks and will drop the value of the heritage classic event. Rick Grimes
This whole damn event seems like it would be better sitting on the couch with a hot cup of coffee watching on a big screen.

King Heffy
Sad considering how many guys from the '94 team will be going. Can't they just have the alumni game at the Rog or something? It's not like the venues are far apart or anything.
Langdon Algur
Ottawa hasn't been around that long so it would have been interesting to see who they brought in for an Alumni game. Edit- sounds like the Sens already have an alumni team. Only names I really recognized were the goalies and a few others like Jason Smith and Luke Richardson. http://senators.nhl....ge.htm?id=69936
tas
there's no doubt left in my mind that this will go down as by far the worst outdoor game to date. the on ice product is going to be abysmal, ratings will be the lowest ever, ticket sales disastrous, and they'll probably have to keep the roof closed. Aladeen
Um maybe it's because... they're all dead!! I haven't checked but I don't believe there are any members of the Original Senators or the Vancouver Millionaires that are still alive, and if there are any I am sure they are in no shape to play an Alumni game
bongo4420
They're probably just trying to save face since it's clear the citizens of Vancouver are balking at this gouge fest. Would you really pay top dollar to watch a game between retreads? I doubt it and so does the NHL.

I don't know why anyone would be upset if they didn't get to see a slow game that has less action than a beer league game.
Ronalds.Kenins41
The way this team is playing I'd be willing to let the 94 team take the ice instead. Would give us a high draft pick but if we could trade for them in their prime..... I still wouldn't do it On a side note it would have been better if the Canucks did this in 2011 or 2012; it's hard to pull it off right now when our team is sucking. elvis15
That bass solo stuff's gotta stop...it's annoying. The sig, every post...just quit. And you obviously have NO clue. That run was exhilarating and the city was alive during it....I remember it well. It's fine that you have no clue about it, but don't slam others who do. The team was a special part of this city....a lot of fun stuff happened during that run and the "celebration" of the team afterward at BC Place was electric...it was a very cool thing. +1,000,000 He's basically trolling for responses with that in every post, especially on top of already negative posts. Don't even get me started on the threads he's made just to talk about it. That '94 team was a Cinderella story with a fantastic run - one they could well have won. Great idea for an alumni game by bringing back players from one significant year. What's the alternative? We don't have any extra events at all just because we haven't won a cup? BanTSN
Good news. So stoked to see those old guys. Especially when the heritage classic game was certainly lacking current Canuck talent.
Western Red
That will really help ticket sales... Wait! No Bure?
blackpluto96
That didn't sound quite accurate "His last job in hockey was as head coach of the Russian national team at the 2006 Turin Olympics, when the team lost the bronze medal game 3-0 to the Czech Republic." LOL, right. But the role of Bure in trying to bring a KHL team to Sochi has been well documented. I posted this in the other thread, but CBC interviewed Pavel a few days ago about his plan to bring the KHL to Sochi. He seems like a busy guy these days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiyYyE_WpZY It's too bad he can't attend. He was an integral part of the team; without his insane scoring streak in the second half of the season, the Canucks might not have even made the playoffs. They finished 7th in the Western Conference, but Pavel had to score 49 goals in the last 51 games of the season to secure many of their wins. Nobody on the team was even close to scoring that many -- he more than tripled everyone's goal totals in those 51 games. Trevor had just 13 goals in that span. Thanks for the vid link, I missed it. It was a memorable season especially for the rocket.
