GetFocht
Springer contract feels like the Vernon Wells deal. That was an anchor for years.
CanuckinEdm
The best part of getting Springer we never ever ever need to see this guy again. Edited January 20, 2021 by CanuckinEdm 1 2

ChuckNORRIS4Cup
I feel the springer signing was a little too much, for a guy who doesn't hit over .300 and signed him until he's 37 he better be some Angels in the outfield type god because his bat didn't deserve that much imo... $25M a year.... Pitching is what needed to be addressed more imo why isn't this money going towards pitching....
ChuckNORRIS4Cup
7 hours ago, shiznak said: Jays just signed Michael Brantley. Report: Brantley re-signs with Astros on 2-year, $32M deal Michael Brantley is staying in Houston after all. Only a few hours after appearing to be headed to the Toronto Blue Jays, the four-time All-Star outfielder agreed to re-sign with the Astros on a two-year, $32-million contract, sources told Mark Berman of KRIV Houston. Completion of the deal is pending a physical, according to Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle. Earlier reports on Wednesday suggested that Brantley had agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the Blue Jays, less than 12 hours after they reportedly added his soon-to-be-former teammate George Springer. The Blue Jays reportedly were targeting Brantley - who shares an agent with Springer and is a close friend - as a tandem signing. However, a Blue Jays source quickly refuted rumors of an agreement being in place, saying Toronto was in the mix, but no deal had been reached and Brantley was still talking to other teams. In the end, the Blue Jays weren't close to landing Brantley, ESPN's Buster Olney reports. https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2096213

Maybe a top level pitcher was waiting to see if the Jays are loading up, before making a decision?

Let's hope that's all they were waiting for, but I doubt the Jays would have the money to grab a good one now, maybe a cheaper option one hopefully something.

They can still sign Bauer without going over the luxury tax.

Yeah but doesn't leave much for anything else. They missed the boat for a stronger arm which I wanted, and then grabing a guy like Bauer as well, but nope it's just grab Bauer and that's all folks not enough on the pitching end imo, if they even grab Bauer. Before this signing, he was pegged to split time with Rowdy as our DH/outfielder. This was a solid pickup for a former MVP candidate, but the Jays desperately need some arms in the rotation. This signing all but ends the Bauer to Jays, but I’m still hoping we can pickup some quality starters (re-up Walker, Takana, Paxton). They expect it to be exactly like that. ^ They also speculated that Semien is insurance at SS, in case Bo has any injury issues. Edit: The only thing that might change is that we might see Rowdy and Vlad do a kind of platoon, where one plays first and the other DH, but rotating the two spots. Gurn
Team 1040 mentioned that Biggio might become the super sub, plays almost every day, but in different spots, so other guys get a day off here and there.
