[Botchford] Kesler gave a list of 6 (revisited)

Recommended Posts

Surprised a few aren't on it

Philly (offer sheet, plus style of play of the organization)

NYR (Big City, American boy, good team, I guess he wants to move on from AV)

LA (Fit their style of play, California, contender, although crowded at center)

Surprised about Tampa.

- No guarantee that Callahan stays

- No guarantee underrated prospects will overachieve again. (best examples is Conacher)

- Had a cinderella year (like they had with Boucher), I wouldn't be surprise if they'd miss the playoff next year

I didn't realize Bishops name was Cinderella

I don't think Kesler wanted to leave back then and I definitely don't think he will want to leave now. Not with all the new faces and exciting staff in the office.

Certainly, if I was Kesler I might think "Hey I could be missing out on something here"

The sad fact is he is probably the only forward other than the twins who would fetch anything worthwhile. Then you have to think that you would need someone of equal quality to replace him.

Maybe a "chain" deal where we get someone that Florida or the Sabres want and we get the no 1/2 pick. What's the going rate for a 1st or 2nd?

I think the trade possibilities, for any player like Kesler, Edler or whomever, with Tampa is very intriguing.

They're a team we could make a strong deal with. They have pieces to spare we could really use.

They seem like a great fit for a trading partner and are at the opposite side of the continent/conference.

Hard to say when neither of them we're traded in the past 10 year I believe.

I totally believe he wants out. He's contemptuous of the city, the nation, and his teammates, and has an inflated ego which makes him think he deserves to be on a "contender" and not a team in the midst of a rebuild, or whatever you want to call this.

How is it that this was written May 14th and I've never seen it until now? This is the sort of news that makes the media in Vancouver explode and yet...nothing. I can't help but wonder if this is more conjecture than a report. Or perhaps this is what Kesler gave to Gillis last season, whose apparent trades for Kes and Edler were then nixed.

What does it say about a writer who isn't read for almost 10 days after publication?

Exactly.

Hey Benning, what are you going to do about Kesler?

It's my first day on the job (laughs)

Hey Benning, how about those NTCs? You gonna ask to wave them?

If it makes sense yes.

I like this guy. He'll make Linden look really good.

Really? They look like they will be a DOMINANT team for years to come.

- Stamkos hurt most of the year

- Bishop is a top-5 goalie

- Palat looks like a perennial Selke contender

- They haven't even added Drouin yet, arguably the best prospect not in the NHL

- Many key players not even in their prime (Stamkos 24, Hedman 23, the rookies, etc.)

Lets keep in mind a new Gm brings a whole new set of trade "buddies". Benning will have connections/friendships that will open up trade possibilities with teams not previously mentioned. I bet a sit down with Kesler would expand that list of 6 teams.

Just for fun though .....

Detroit - Tatar or Mantha, 1st, Brendan Smith

Tampa - Brett Connelly, 1st, Kucherov or Koekoek

Pittsburgh - Derrik Pouliot, 1st, Bennett or Sutter

Anaheim - Etem or Palmieri ,1st, Shea Theodore

I don't think Kesler will get that much, but it would be my starting point as an asking price if I were Benning, and negotiate from there.

I thought that Kesler gave that list at the trade deadline last March? Not sure if he is still willing to try and get away from Tortorella though :-).

My biggest dream is for the Canucks to trade the Sedins while they still have value. I know that many in Canuckville think that they are untouchable, but I look at this differently. My goal is for Vancouver to win a cup, and they have not been able to do that with the Sedins. I would probably pass-out on draft day if I hear that Vancouver has traded the Sedins to the Islanders for John Tavares and a first round pick....but after I "come-to" I would also be uncorking the champagne :-).

While we're on the subject, we know that Florida is also open to trading for their first round pick. We also know that they are looking for defencemen -- hint, hint ;-). And we know that Edler and Beiksa have been mentioned in trade talks for months now. So why not sweeten the pot, and try to trade Edler, Bieksa plus perhaps Burrows for their first round pick and Jonathan Huberdeau?

None of this might ever happen...but would it not be wise to at least ask? :-). The Canucks' organization has mentioned on more than one occasion that they will become younger and tougher...so that's my plan.

Whether these trades would happen or not is questionable...but you have to admit that Vancouver season tickets would probably sell-out in a day if Vancouver suddenly acquired Tavares, Huberdeau, and 3 first round draft picks in the top 6 overall...not to mention $20-million free in cap space :-). And even if Vancouver does become top-heavy with centres...that could just mean more trades and more building too.

This kinda sucks. I like Kesler, but if he wants out best do it now that he has trade value. Despite his past 'injuries' he was healthy this year and played fairly well considering how the entire team played.

I hope we can get a good trade for now and the future. Re-tool/Re-build whatever you want to call it suck, but I would like to see some good hockey while waiting for the future. Just like Detroit seems to do….

Tampa: Kucherov + 1st

Detroit: Mantha + 1st

Colorado: Rights to O'Reilly

Anaheim: Etem + Ottawa's 1st (10th overall)

Chicago: Teravainen + 1st

Pittsburgh: Pouliot + 1st

If Colorado re-signs Stastny, ROR for Kesler makes a lot of sense for them. Likely saves 1.5 per year in cap, and not committing to another long term deal.

If Chicago doesn't win this year, they may want to shake things up for one last hurrah. Kane and Toews are both UFA at the end of next season, and are going to need BIG raises. But with that coming, they are probably more keen on shedding a big contract veteran (Sharp? Hossa?) than trading a player on a cheaper ELC.
