He won't go unnoticed for long, you're right.

Just so everybody knows, despite the Boston College connection, Thatcher is MUCH closer to being the next Roberto than he is the next Schneider.
He plays a bold, aggressive, athletic game. If he makes a miraculous save, he WILL sell it. This is not a quiet athlete.
Not the icy veins and dead eyes of Schneids. Given the right teaching though, perhaps he could become the best of both worlds.

He is a funny, lively kid and will crack jokes with the media. Our media guys are going to absolutely love this kid.

Just caught something here too. In the 1990 NHL Entry Draft (held in Vancouver) the Calgary Flames took Trevor Kidd only a few picks ahead of Martin Brodeur. They followed the scouting report instead of the visual test. You know, the kind of visible swagger of a goalie like Marty that understood his job so clearly that he refused to lose.

Hopefully Thatcher is our Marty and Mason McDonald is their Trevor Kidd. Thatch is certainly as funny/goofy off the ice and just as deadly serious on the ice as Marty.

That's what they've been working on, to have him not rely on his athleticism and do a better job of angles, position, etc. No question he's more of an athletic goalie first, but they sure hope to shore up the technical side of his game to supplement it.

It certainly seems to be working.

Its definetely à great sign and it puts him back to thé level we know hé can perform at, but right now I think it would be wise to not get too ahead of ourselves. 6 games is à good sample, but it isnt 50 games. Love the kid and I hope hé keeps it up. Lets stay cautiously Optimistic for thé time being. Spending 2017 2018 in Utica could do him Wonders

Totally agree. Yes I want him in Utica for all of next year and then hopefully he is ready to make the jump for the start of 2018 season.  Now the problem is what do we do for our backup situation to Markstrom. JB is talking about resigning Miller. Would he take a one year deal?

I think Miller will find another team closer to home in LA and we go out and get a veteran on a one year deal to back up Marky. That makes the most sense. Who knows we may even trade Miller at the deadline if we are out of playoff contention, which looks more likely as time goes on.

That's young, especially for a goalie, right?  How old is that Pit goalie - 22?  Maybe Demko is ready sooner than we expect?

Matt Murray spent a full season in the AHL and then most of a 2nd season there, before being forced into action in the NHL and going on that incredible Stanley Cup run. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=91683

It remains to be seen what trajectory Demko's path will take. He is clearly the number 3 goalie in the organization this year and there are scenarios that would see him in a Canucks jersey this year. He would most likely be in a backup role and it might make sense to put Bachman into that role, but if the the Canucks are out of the playoff picture late and they have decided to sell off assets, I would definitely give him a few games so he could see what NHL level shots look like.

Looks like it won't take him "years" to develop like some people thought. He could be ready for the big show in time for the start of the 2018 season.

Technically the start of the 2018 season is 'years' :P

Maybe he's another Luongo, starts slow then locks it down?

Some of us were predicting he'd take a few months to adjust to the pro game as he should. It's an adjustment for pretty much every player.

He actually looks to have mostly figured it out even faster than that, which is a GREAT sign.

Yeah - I thought he would start rolling in January; but ahead of schedule.

He has been fantastic - especially against Albany and Toronto

Figured asmuch as well. Big adjustment from College, will be playing a lot more games per season than he's used to.
