Whale Tail
Didn't see this mentioned anywhere The Vancouver Canucks about to offer a one-way contract to Yannick Weber SOURCE Dino Kessler PUBLISHED 28 June 2014 - 6:59 pm RUMOR - As Dino Kessler (Blick) reports, Yannick Weber is likely to be offered a one-way contract by the Vancouver Canucks. They still have time to make a qualifying offer until June 30. Otherwise, Weber will hit the market as UFA on July 1. Photo Vancouver canucks The 25-year-old defender signed with Vancouver prior to this season, but struggled to get ice time at the NHL level. He averaged only 11:54 TOI in 49 games and got sent down to their AHL affiliate Utica Comets for a stretch of seven games. After that, his game with the Canucks vastly improved. Weber's goal is to stay in North America. http://swisshockeynews.ch/index.php/rumors-new/1772-the-vancouver-canucks-about-to-offer-a-one-way-contract-to-yannick-weber I am ok with Weber staying. He was improving with the group last year. Had a couple clutch goals for the team and Can go back and forth as a forward and defense player in case of injuries. Derp...
He's good depth, still improving too.
BananaMash
You know, I thought Weber was one of our bright spots last year at times. Definitely would not mind him as a depth guy. Might make it possible for Frankie to spend some more time developing his game with Utica too.
Outsiders
when in the line-up last year he played good in my mind Hamhuis-Bieksa Edler-Tanev Sbisa-Weber ?????
TOMapleLaughs
No choice here. We need warm bodies. But... How was a two-way even an option?
MayRayDown
when in the line-up last year he played good in my mind Hamhuis-Bieksa Edler-Tanev Sbisa-Weber ????? would likely be the 7th Dman since Albert's career could be done. Stanton-Sbisa or Stanton-Bieksa would be 3rd pairing
Pears
I'd have no problem giving Weber $800-$900K on a two year contract. He's a really solid 6th-7th defenceman.
canucks155
Hamhuis Tanev Sbisa Edler Bieksa Weber Corrado Stanton Seems like too many NHL ready dmen to me. Could somebody be on the way out? I thought Stanton played pretty well last year and Corrado is probably NHL ready this year.
Smiley2051
Best goal? Probably cause it was an exciting game haha
johngould21
I like Stanton more than Weber, because before he dinged his knee, Stanton was a pretty solid guy back there. Weber had fire drill moments as far as I'm concerned.
-Vintage Canuck-
when in the line-up last year he played good in my mind Hamhuis-Bieksa Edler-Tanev Sbisa-Weber ????? I like the pairings except for the third one. I think it will most likely be 'Stanton-Sbisa' as our third pairing but not sure if either player is comfortable playing on the right side. Unless we sign another defenceman at the Free Agency, Weber will most likely be our seventh defenceman.
Rounoush
I thought Weber did quite well last year all things considered. Would love to have him back.
Grape
One of my favourite depth defenceman on the Canucks these past few years along with Stanton. Deserves another contract.
Rypien37
I'd rather sign Engelland as the #7 D.
DeNiro
Weber and Stanton were not the problem on D last season. Edler and Garrison were. I still think we need to sign another top 4 in free agency though. Hamhuis UFA Edler Tanev Sbisa Bieksa Stanton, Weber
The Magician
Yep. Great 6/7th defence man with a cannon who can actually hit the net.
EternalCanuckFan
Weber and Stanton were not the problem on D last season. Edler and Garrison were. I still think we need to sign another top 4 in free agency though. Hamhuis UFA Edler Tanev Sbisa Bieksa Stanton, Weber I wonder whether Edler would be better paired with a puck carrying partner like Ehrhoff was. Tanev's not a bad option since he has a similar "calmness" with the puck that Salo did (another D partner for good Edler) but I think having a true puck moving D for Edler would help his game tremendously. Unfortunately, Weber cannot fill that role but I agree that if this is true, he will be a good depth defenceman. I also agree that it should be Stanton and Weber as the 7th and 8th D for the Canucks. Not sure where Corrado will fit into the mix.
Bure to Mogilny
when in the line-up last year he played good in my mind Hamhuis-Bieksa Edler-Tanev Sbisa-Weber ????? I thought so too But what about frankie he deserves his shot too Getting overloaded on d i feel weber is a good 6/7 but could see him not happy if not seen as a regular
SOB for MVP
Love Weber as a 6/7. Glad to know the Canucks are making an effort to keep him
Phil_314
Powerplay specialist IMO. Stanton and Sbisa can take the regular 3rd pairing spots while Yannick can fill in and provide another right-handed bomb that hits the net. I think the 3 of them will all see time on that pairing with each other, and there's quite a bit of versatility with this lineup: Hamhuis - Bieksa (tough-minutes pairing) Edler - Tanev (Alex, the bomb from the point, gets sheltered and protected by Chris, who can be a setup man) Sbisa/ Stanton/ Weber I like this depth and versatility since guys can move up when necessary.
