Extremely Disappointed in the Canucks Event Staff

I like how people say that the lower bowl is "nothing but suits" and the "real fans" are the ones sitting up in sections like where OP wass, that's where all the drunk scrubs like the losers you had to deal with who can't afford higher than $80 for a ticket sit

I have season tickets in the lower bowl and have never dealt with anything like the situation he had to deal with, i've had people knee the back of my seat and i simply ask them nicely to stop and they apologize and stop. which crowd would you rather be sitting with?

every single i've time seen a fight breakout in Rogers Arena it's been in the upper bowl. and every time security starts dragging the morons who were fighting out other people start throwing crap at them just for doing their jobs. it's pathetic

"It is with incredible disappointment as a lifelong Vancouverite and Canucks fan to no longer have any desire to continue to cheer for the team I've grown up rooting for"

LOL...That is so dramatic. Also 5'10 210lbs isn't noteworthy haha.

In all seriousness. They offered Lower bowl seats and dry cleaning. What more do you want. A hockey team is willing to clean your shoes and you're butthurt? *Shaking my head soooo hard*

The OP isn't upset at the compensation but the attitude of one of the workers there. The OP's brother was spit on and I am guessing after that there was a physical altercation for which the staff worker put some of the blame on the OP and his brother. I can sympathize I would have a tough time controlling my temper if I had been spat upon especially if I had a few drinks. Basically the OP in unhappy for being blamed for the assault, in which case I can side with him. If you are an arena worker you have to show sympathy towards someone who was the victim of something like spitting. It goes beyond the dry cleaning and changing of seats.

Also to the people who seem to be like "Omg stop overreacting" about the "pulling the support" part. The OP is obviously upset when he wrote this and also is trying to convey that he has been wronged so yeah its being a little dramatic but its justified if the person thinks they have been wronged. Sometimes people say stuff they don't mean to get others to look at things seriously and this might be the case.

Don't know if this was a case of bad service... more like a run in with some crappy people during a particularly bad Canucks game. Some bad luck?

I've seen some pretty terrible fans in Van . Even at games we won. I rode on the skytrain once with my buddy who was a Calgary fan. He was verbally abused/ threatened the whole walk from the stadium and even on the skytrain. People were in his face.

My point is, there are no shortage of idiots attending sporting events. Especially drunk ones. Most fans in Van are awesome, but you would do yourself a great service to never confront any yourself.

The fact that everyone had to be removed from the section usually means words were exchanged, and this escalates things. Should have gone to event staff without the jerks knowing, then you could have stayed. There is even a texting number available to encourage anonymity. These things are mentioned during games as well.

Event staff don't put up with anything. Saw them escort a guy out for taking his shirt off after a goal... no warning.

Anyways, sorry you had a bad experience.

I don't think I'd go as far as to complain about event staff... even the east indian door staff. :)

Over reaction, there was no need to engage/escalate the situation if it had gone on for 5-10 minutes without cooperation. All you had to do was go to guest services and have them try to resolve the issue on your behalf, but going to them after the situation had already been escalated... all the while painting yourselves as victims is a bit silly.

The assault afterward was a direct result of pushing buttons, both parties were to blame, and guest services offering to relocate you and your brother was the right thing to do... it's easier to relocate 2 people instead of 6-8.

I agree with Deb, posting this here before allowing management to complete the process is premature and does not garner sympathy or empathy.

There are idiots everywhere you go in life, how you deal with them is entirely up to you.

Just sayin'

You dont know what your'e talking about.

Example: Rick Rypien....not even 190.....I know one guy at 146 that would have made those guys nights end in the hospital....if you know what youre doing and have the mentality you dont need to be big. The fact that those guys had to spit kinda sums up their gumption.

But yes mentioning his own height and weight was a bit unecessary

In a close quarters situation hindered by seats, railings, other people? I don't care if he's Jean Claude Van Damme, a 3 or 4 to 1 ratio is not in his favour unless he has a significant size advantage.

But theminister, vikingmama and others have had some very sensible posts here.

Too often we hear complaints about people getting kicked out for what they perceived to be nothing. Imagine what the other guys' stories would have been if they'd been kicked out straight away for leaning on the railing and having some guy swear at them for it rather than report it. They were clearly the people in the wrong to start, but every step had both sides involved in making it a less than ideal situation. The OP got the better offer of the two groups as a result - despite their own mishandling of the situation - and still wants to complain.

Ok its seems a bit over dramatic but really the people in the front row dont need too stand up too see the game sit down you ignorant pricks its rude. For the guy that spit I would have knocked him out. Spitting is discusting and he should have charged him who knows what kind of disease he could have for all he know.

I agree with the disgusting part, but follow through in pressing charges...that's the most effective way to address it. If you knock him out, then you face that possibility.

Depends on when people stand up...during play, absolutely. But for crying out loud, get on your feet during a shootout or when we score. That's acceptable in my view...just don't obstruct others' view for long...make it short and sweet.

clearly that is why the seats are all raised on each level so people can see the game but when someone hinders your view of the game by standing up, it gets a person pissed I can see the guy asking them if they can please sit down. I mean come on you pay good money to watch the game not the back of someones head. It seems he had a valid complaint the staff should have at least said something and if other people are complaining then its seems these two gentlemen were not the only ones affected by these rude individuals. The problem should have been monitored and the person who did spit should have been removed from the game IMO. I have seen people behave like this at games they are annoying and rude. To fans who are like this if you going to be this way then dont bother going too a game, because all you do is rune it for real fans. GO Canucks GO

I honestly wish they'd put a condition on the ticket that has it revoked for the remainder of the season if the seat holder assaults someone else.

I don't care how much people pay for their seats - done deal. Sure you'd then risk losing a STH as they wouldn't likely renew, but so be it. Clowns would smarten up real quick. Spitting has no place in society unless you're a llama.

I agree with you, if you pay 10 bucks for your seat well then you get what you pay for but if you pay good money for the seats then you expect good service. There is ushers and security there to look after your well being and are "payed" to ensure the customer has a good time. If that person was leaning on the rails for that length of time, it should have been noticed. Once they knew there was an issue, it should have been monitored to assess any further intervention. Especially if you put the 2 parties back in the same viscinity. It should never have reached the point where the drunk guy had an opportunity to spit on the complainant. Security WAS responsible as this escalated to a point where an assault occured. If it was "spontaneous", then I would not place too much blame on security.

OP I think you need to understand crap happens when you have 20ish thousand people together in one place. I mean back in 07 I was living in Van and had a beer dumped on me during a Flames Canucks game for wearing my Flames jersey even though the Flames lost, and my 3 friends with me were wearing Canucks jerseys, I laughed it off, in Edmonton I was punched in the back of the head when I was 19 during a Flames Oilers game, and even in Calgary I had some drunk pickpocket my cigarettes, at another game someone threw a bunch of popcorn at my wife, fiancé at the time. Oh, and lol I am 5'11 and 195, but really don't see any need to fight hahah. Also, if someone was standing/leaning, chances are there was an exciting play underway, maybe if you stood too you woulda saw it.

That being said being spat on is gross, but if they offered to move you to other seats and pay for cleaning I would say they did do everything in there power to remedy the situation. Regardless of your perceived "tone" of the host, it sounds like they really made an effort.
