Word is that they have hit 11,000 deposits without casinos and hotels. An email came out today that they have sold out some of the sections for season tickets.

I think 2017 is likely going to be the start of a team in Las Vegas.

Hopefully we can add Seattle in 2018, if they get an arena deal done!

Quebec is in the East and it is the West that only has 14 teams compared to 16 in the East

Realignment is kind of an issue but I am assuming that either the Coyotes or Panthers will move to Seattle or Quebec and the one not chosen will get an expansion franchise.

Still an imbalance but with 32 teams I can see a 4 Conference League that is no longer divided between East or West but by regions.

example:

Pacific - VAN, SJS, LAK, ANH, CGY, EDM, Seattle, Vegas

Central - DAL, CHI, COL, WPG, NSH, STL, MIN, and CBJ

Northeast - BOS, MTL, BUF, TOR, DET, OTT, CAR (yeah that's f****ed up), Quebec City

Atlantic - FLA, TBL, WSH, NYR, NYI, NJD, PHI, PIT

Yeah I can see that work.

I believe this idea was actually discussed during the realignment discussion a few year back. However the only thing holding it back would have been the uneven distribution of teams.

Another option I would like the NHL to consider should the team count be 32 is the NFL's alignment. 2 Conferences 4 divisions each.

I think this is more likely than four conferences. This way they can still maintain the east vs. west final and not have to re-decide how to award the conference championship trophies.

There's a reason why Las Vegas doesn't have a projfessional sport, Vegas tourists would be the only people to attend their games, it'll be Atlanta Thrashers all over again (less than half full arena every game) since hotels will buy out seats. This is getting a bit silly that Bettman are ignoring gold mine spots for spots he thinks he can create growth in.

Winnipeg says hi.

Atlanta was in an emergancy situation because that team went on way too long and there was no preperation for a new location for the team and Winnipeg was their best move, Bettman actually hesitated with that one, yet works his ass off to try and keep the Coyotoes in town. *scratch head*

And also the Gambling involved which is why other leagues avoided Vegas from what I read before.

Wow that's so awesome. More hockey in the desert at low low prices to fill seats.

So glad they are gauging interest there instead of say Seattle, Saskatchewan, Hamilton, Quebec or even Windsor. You know, in places where seats would be sold out every single game and merch sales alone will float 3 bottom feeder teams on welfare.

Cannot wait to go see the Lost Wages Suicide Watchers!!! No? Lost Wages Gamblers? Debt Collectors? Pit Bosses?

Are there even owners ready and willing to bring a new team into those places though? Is there NHL ready arenas? What about geographical roadblocks, like TO not wanting another NHL team in their area?

I dont see the sense in being negative before we even see how it works out. Maybe it goes well like some of the Cali teams (are doing now) or Nashville, and the desert dwellers embrace the team and get the beautiful gift of hockey. Personally I love seeing hockey being given a chance in places were it doesnt have the deepest of roots, cause I want to see new people and fans getting to have the same immense enjoyment from hockey as I do.

IMO Hamilton would be a great place, it's a gorwing city (lived there for a while), however wasn't there an attempt to buying the Sabres and bringing them up to Hamilton but didn't work out some years ago?

The 2 million plus residents of Las Vegas area say Hi!

Apparently, you haven't spent any real time in the Las Vegas area. There is a thriving community off the strip, 90% of which are people who have come from strong hockey communities like Chicago, New York, Boston, Toronto and Vancouver.

There are a lot of hockey fans in this community and that's reflected in the number of deposits that they managed to get, without any firm commitment of a team.

Yes, Quebec, Seattle and a lot of other destinations are good choices for hockey, and I believe Quebec should get a team fairly quickly as well.

The only thing stopping Seattle from getting a team is someone agreeing where the arena is going to be put.

Unlike a lot of other communities who have relied on the Government putting public funds into buildings, Las Vegas group just wrote a check for 375 million to get an arena built on spec of getting a team here.

They have the funds and the resources to fill the building every night.

Also Vegas is a city that works 24/7. At any given time 1/3 of the population is sleeping. so say 2.1 million, is now 1.4 million.

Do the Las Vegas Wranglers ring a bell? The Wranglers couldn't even fill the building and it was an ECHL team!
