[Trade] Martin Jones to San Jose

Recommended Posts

Lack is a back up goalie.

He was never worth a 1st or a 2nd with all the goalies available.

And team had no reason to go after him because Canucks were stuck in a corner cuz we had to get rid of lack or mackstrom

Or we would lose 1 of them on waivers for nothing.

This. Also, eighty games is proven?

That 1st rounder is going to be a pretty high one. The Sharks aren't making the playoffs. Can't believe that Jones got a return like that. This trade is worse than the Lehner trade. I would be furious if i were a Sharks-fan.

Martin Jones and Robin Lehner respectively are 25 and 23 years old. Both touted to be better goalies and plenty of room left to grow. Lehner already has a cheap 2 year deal and Martin Jones is an RFA. They have several years before either one hits UFA market.

In comparison Talbot and Lack but have 1 year deals left before they hit UFA for big bucks. Teams are less inclined due for that reason, and also because both are 27 years old. They have pretty much hit their max potential and they are what they are. So that pushes down their value alonside their 1 year deals looking for big money. They may be better goalies now...but in a few years time Jones and Lehner can easily be better than both guys.

Wow, are all those goalies that much better than Lack? Or are we all simply massively overrating Lack on CDC?

To be fair the return on Talbot wasn't that much better than Lack. A late second, late third, and a seventh vs. an early third and a seventh. Late second about the same as an early third, so Talbot got a late third more than Lack basically, & Talbot was more in demand.

SJS and BUF bought Jones and Lehner based on potential, and also overpaid IMO (unless the max out their suggested potential). but just because they overpaid for those two does not mean they would overpay for Lack. They were obviously high on those guys.

Martin Jones is a starter how?

I found it interesting that SJ still had to pay a 1st after practically all the other goaltenders already found homes. Is Jones that much better? Nope.

But maybe SJ plans on making some more moves to win now. imho They kinda have to.

Lehner, Talbot, Jones all worth 1st round picks.

Eddie Lack....well not so much, because reason.

Canucks don't seem to understand 'market value'.

Too busy trying to figure out why they can't get more for 34 year old soon to be UFA defenseman with an NTC.

Hilarious.

Talbot didn't get a first round pick. He got the equivalent of a late third/early fourth more than Lack did.

But hey, yeah! GMJB out GM'd again, right?
