Abbotsford Police and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team are looking into the death of a 74-year-old man on Wednesday night.

Police were called to the 3500-block of Promontory Court around 7:15 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired.

They arrived to find a vehicle in a driveway with what appears to be bullet holes and a man located outside a nearby home suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Abbotsford Police say early indications suggest the victim was merely standing outside a neighbouring home when a targeted shooting took place in an adjacent driveway.

They say the investigation is being handed over to IHIT.

Sad night for this family. It's disgusting that innocent people are getting shot and killed because these 19 year old teenage idiots can't keep it in their pants.

Innocent by stander killed by a way ward gang bullet? This is just the type of incident that is going to galvanize the community to get the law enforcement agencies to get off their @$$ and clean up the trash that is gang-related (at least for the foreseeable near future).

It's a shame that an innocent 74 year old man had to die...condolences to his grieving family.

Pretty much this. We've all basically been waiting for this to happen, it was sadly inevitable. Here's hoping that at least it becomes a positive catalyst for action from both law enforcement and communities.

And as sad as it is, I'm glad it was someone who's lived a relatively long life as opposed to reading about some 5 year old kid playing in their yard. #morbid silverlinings *sigh*

It's time for the community and society as a whole to reclaim our streets.

We need to find ways to make those punks and those people "protecting" them feel unwelcome here.

Can't the police just tail these wannabe gangsters like 24/7? Ticket them for littering, parking a bit too far onto the streets, jaywalking, etc. Should be more than enough to cover the expense of those salaries.

What really makes me angry is how unnecessary being in a gang is here. We pretty much won the f'n lottery on places to live in the world when it comes to opportunity and quality of life, yet some people just want to pretend they live in Compton in the 80s. You know who didn't want to live in Compton in the 80s? People in Compton. Just like Arcade Fire said, "...kids want to be so hard"

This has been going on for awhile now and it just keeps escalating. Everyone is so fed up with these stupid wannabe gangbangers, you see them in black cars wearing black hoodies just driving around in groups of 4, eyeballing people out of the windows.

Hopefully this leads to arrests and the streets can get cleaned up.
