Is he subject to waivers if we want to send him down? Right now I think Hutton's our 4th best defenceman, 5th best at the very worst (if Weber's just played his way up). Don't think he'll be getting sent down any time soon, and Bartkowski has to be the odd man out obviously. Looks like he'll be here to stay all year long and the Canucks defence look a lot smoother with him in the lineup.

He's nothing like that idiot defense man from bowling green. God, that guy sucked. Never seen a dman been protected like that throughout his career and still was crap awful when he was done.

Easy Rey, he had some good seasons here.

Anyone could have had a good season with the way he played. Protected by Mitchell and Hamhuis throughout his whole career. Even Brent Sopel put up similar up 40 points in a Canuck uniform. One of the most overrated defense man in Canuck's history because he fights and his character. If the Canucks choose Ehrhoff instead that year when they were both UFA, we probably would have been in the finals back to back. Instead, the whole thing that made the canucks successful, the transition game, was lost.

You could tell Bieksa had limited potential when he was at his peak. I ask literally begging the Canucks to trade him 2-3 years in because he had high value.

OK,  so what is the scenario if his play rapidly declines in coming months? (I don't think this will happen at all) Does he go to Utica or back to his college team?

Otherwise,

What are people's thoughts on Hutton? Been so great seeing his confidence and make some impressive plays this far. Speed, good hockey sense; pretty great pick for us.

Utica. Once a college player leaves college, they are no longer aloud to go back. This is why you never see college players at training camp or playing pre season games. That said, Hutton is playing like the Canucks best defense man and has huge upside. No way hes ever going back unless it's a conditional stint if he ever gets injured.

When did Dale Weise help Vancouver go to the Finals?

I mean Max Lappiere. Tanner Glass. all the same sort of player.

Everyone emphasis on small insignificant moment. Jovo will always be remembered for being in the penalty box when Naslund or whoever it was scored shorthanded against Calgary that meant nothing.

It would be interesting to see what he could do with Edler's opportunity to play on the first unit PP.

this. bieksa was 26/27 and ppl were saying how he's 'going to be' 'real good' for us 'one day'.

hutton is better, younger, period.

The Hutton - Bieksa comparison is awful. They are not similar players. Pretty much the only similarities are that they are both defensemen and both came out of college. That being said, its hilarious that people think Hutton is not only better, but are actually implying he blows Bieksa out of the water lol. The kid has 11 NHL games under his belt. Total. 11 games. LOL Classic CDC.

Hutton certainly is a different player so you are correct in that he is nothing like Bieksa but its pretty hard to dislike Bieksa, he loved the team, the city and the fans and played with a lot of heart. He did what he could to make up for any shortcomings with other intangibles.

What if we whisper?  Can we send him back then?

in those 11 games Hutton has displayed more skill than Bieksa did in all his years here.  Hutton is not only more skillful than Bieksa, he's more skillful than any D man we've had since Reinhart.  Hutton is really, really good at moving the puck.  Bieksa brought s physical toughness that made us connect to him, but he had no where near Hutton's skill.

Whoa there ... what about vision?  Would Ben have seen that puck carom off the stanchion like Bieksa did?  No-one else had any idea.

And no-one can make a grumpy face like B (except maybe Vernon Fiddler)
