This board cries regularly about needing defensemen-who tend to adapt to the NHL and hit their prime later in their career. The same people are ready to crucify OJ for being a "failure" at 21. It's rare to for dmen to play meaningful minutes in the NHL at the age of 20 or 21. Young forwards putting up points in sheltered roles has become increasingly the way the league is trending. Defense as a position is much more nuanced, and we should be happy that OJ has gone through the steps to learn a lot of the little details he would have been lambasted for had he stepped into the league as a 19 or 20 yo. As this team develops into a contender over the next 2-4 years, I think were going to see a lot of growth in Olli and he will become a steady, all-around defenseman for us for years to come. However, we won't get to know if we drive him out of town before he gets here.

We look at a guy like Dahlin who had a great rookie season at 18 and wonder why our guy isn’t doing the same.  Yet, Dahlin had 60% O zone starts, and didn’t PK, and had very sheltered 5 on 5 minutes.  Unless the D man is Orr or Hughes, they are best developing in the minors.

Olli Juolevi was barely competent in his own zone at the AHL level last year.

Clearly you didn't watch him play but it seemingly didn't pose a barrier to posting a comment on his play.    He was very good and improving.   If you watched the goals, the team was so far outmatched early last year and the SV% for the goalies was hovering around the US/Canada exchange rate.

Why is it that we don’t get serious updates on how he’s doing?

What do you want?

Tuesday - he did 17 laps to warm up and then shot pucks for about 20 minutes finishing off with a bit of STL drill with a coach.    Three or four of the warm up laps looked "questionable" and it may mean another full season in Utica.   However, during the shooting he showed a remarkable resilience in spite of the net being a big askew and off its pegs - now more likely a Norris candidate.    Alas, during the STL drill he twice (that is right TWICE) misses passes that were not that hard to corral so it is one step forward two steps back.   Sigh.

Wednesday - after the devastating end to yesterday, he upped to 19 warm up laps and.......

Is that what you need?

You put down the usage of dahlin but that is exactly the usage OJ will get when he starts out here....don't be so critical.

And the bolded......god......:frantic:

Why the sarcasm? We’re you born a jerk or have you taken lessons.

That old "get off the keyboard sometime" or "go outside once in a while" never works because the person typing it is literally at their computer typing it.  :picard:

Very clever. You’re really quite full of yourself....Aren’t you Rob? I was only asking why we get so few updates about him when some of us are concerned about how his rehabilitation is going. Sorry to have offended you.

Not offended at all.  I just find ridiculous question - ah....um.... ridiculous.   It is on you in terms of being full.   The Canucks announced he would return to the ice "about the middle of June" back in February and then in the middle of June announced "he has started his summer skating workouts".    Beyond that, what on earth more could possible be of interest.   Number of laps?  How much whey powder in his recovery shake?

Kid is working to be ready for main camp.   Three months of skating should make that a reality but if it doesn't, I am sure you will get an update.

What would actually be clever is listening to what they have said and the updates they do provide which have actually been quite plentiful.

Some people simply get offended easily - getting woke over a player rehab is a new one though.

Yet another pompous and confrontational response. Thanks, let’s call it a day.
