Monty
http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/pit170223.html Quote The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired defenseman Ron Hainsey from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Danny Kristo and a 2017 second-round draft pick. Hainsey, 35, is in the final year of his contract and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He comes with a $2.5 million salary, though his cap hit is just over $2.833 million, of which the Hurricanes are paying 50 percent of as part of this trade. In 56 games with the Hurricanes so far this season, Hainsey has registered four goals and 10 assists for 14 points and 17 penalty minutes.

D-Money
Man, Hainsey looked so done prior to the 2015-16 season, but he's really had a resurgence since, and is still a valuable veteran defenseman. Nice pick-up for Pittsburgh.
Nicklas Bo Hunter
Safe to say hansen is worth more.
Toews
I think this year will be the year that Hainsey finally plays in a playoff game. I think he has the record as far as most games played without playoffs

BeefcakeBo
The second rounder seems a little steep in my opinion. Solid win for Carolina.

It's a silly post. Hansen has nothing in common with Hainsey.

Defense is at a premium, mainly clearing this up to reduce disappointment CDC-wide should Hansen get traded and maybe a 2nd is involved, maybe. Vinny in Vancouver
This trade balanced the lopsided Stone trade. The market for veteran D is now back to being more what was expected. Good for the Canucks if they are thinking of trading any of our veteran D-men.

Hence, why it was a 2nd round pick.
Darius
It will be interesting to see how Pittsburgh manages their assets during the next 5 years as their stars will start to age. Seems every year they are unloading draft picks at the deadline to buy utility/rental players that will help them on cup runs. I havent looked at their prospect pool but I bet you that its probably pretty thin due to their draft position and how they seem to be buyers all the time. With 50% salary retained and a history with GM Jim Rutherford, yes.
CaNuCkSLoUiE23
That's a pretty steep price to pay for an aging rental defenceman.
