Monty
AAV of $6M. Scheifele's deal made this one possible for the Jets. When he signed for $6.25M per, it was only reasonable for Ehlers to take a shade less. Reports also indicate that Ehlers and Laine are very good friends, so taking a discount to play on a team that will be competitive in his prime years made sense. I mean, he's still making $42M over 7 years, so it's not like he'll be hard done by.

Fanuck
I think theyll get their money's worth, but if the math is accurate they have almost 47mil committed to just 11 contracts next year according to Capfriendly. They need to re-sign Trouba and Morrissey next year and Laine the year after - scarry how much Laine alone might be worth - is their structure sustainable? They've also got their share of NMC/M-NTC. Good thing the fat lady hasn't sung yet and we may still have a player in Jake. Miss us with your negativity. As for the contract. Absolute steal. That is a unbelievable price for Ehlers. He's going to put up 75+ points this year

Alflives
Ehlers is a decent young player, but he's tiny, and plays zero defense. He will need to continue to produce big numbers, or that contract will be money wasted. Seems a lot of money for his type of player. Could be a really big mistake IMHAO. Yeah but only because he's too busy controlling the play in the offensive zone. He's not a defensive liability by any means.

If they are not controlling the puck in the O-zone, they hurt the team. This is the same for Ehlers. He needs to be in the O-zone with the puck, or he's hurting his team. If he has any regression at all, that big money, long term contract will be an albatross for the Jets.
