Federal report calls for special treatment of immigrants

It’s really far from actual GoC policy.

Canada Beyond 150 is a group of young policy analysts and futurists working within the civil service. They were tasked with investigating several topics over a ten month period and to come up with a set of reports detailing policy recommendations. The group was put together by Policy Horizons Canada, on behalf of the Privy Council. Michael Wernick, the Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet, describes Canada Beyond 150 as “a test kitchen for policy development and the public service of the future.”

It’s also not the first time newspaper articles have misrepresented the role of the Privy Council Office in relation to the PMO.

Here’s an excellent letter from 10 years ago that makes my point more concisely and eloquently than I could:

So when the Sun writer suggests the authors of the report come from “within the prime minister’s own department” and “report directly to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,” he’s, at best, being ignorant and factually inaccurate, and, at worst (and much more likely IMO), seeking to rile people up by deliberately misrepresenting the report.

Oh, that's just silly. Who would possibly want to foster an anti-immigrant sentiment like that?

Exactly. And it’s pretty obvious from just reading the article that the writer intended to stoke those exact flames.

One thing I find funny is that Policy Horizons Canada actually came into existence in its current form under the Harper administration. So if people have issues with reports like these, maybe “Welcome to Stephen Harper’s Canada” would be a more apt catchphrase. :P

Then again, had this report come out under Harper, we would have been lucky to even find it “in a dark corner on the Government of Canada website.” Under that regime (IIRC), reports had to be cleared through the PMO’s communications office before they were released publicly. And one titled “Feminist Government” likely would have been killed long before it had a chance to see the light of day.

already happening.  You can hire immigrants and pay em less.  This is why Tim Horton has a bunch of employees from XXX  Asian Pacific Country, because Tim Hortons gets incentives and saves money from hiring them.  Meanwhile these workers have sex to have kids so they can become Canadian Citizens.  I know this stuff, I am very familar with the Asian community in B.C.

Good point however the previous government introducing the TFW program was terrible for many Canadians. Paying non Canadians 90% of what a Canadian makes only helps to drive wages down. TBH it's hard to believe such a program would take place in a Country like Canada.

That’s Conservatives for you. Pro-business (not that the Liberals aren’t), low taxes.

Businesses make more profit with TFWs than citizens. In food/service positions, at the very least.

It's also an easier way to get Canadian sponsorship.

A buddy of mine worked there for like 3 years to get her PR.  My supply of free donuts ended when she finally quit to be an engineer.... lol.

As opposed to you who pops up every so often to post an easily debunked, nationalist dog whistle article?

About 2 months ago I made a thread about Trudeau’s ass grabbing issues, a day or two later it blew up in mainstream media, can you show me where it was debunked? Thats news to me

Kinda ironic someone who spends his life on an Internet forum is talking about other people hiding from something.

Me?  Hiding?  Hardly.  I've even posted my business including contact info here.

As for spending my life here?  That's a bit laughable.  But a shade better than being afraid of anything less than white or christian like yourself.

But who's labeling who right

I’m half white Mr “warhippy” and you reply to me within minutes every single time I post so it’s not difficult for me to assume you have no life.

You bring my race and my religion into it when I’m neither fully white or anything Christian and the thread has nothing to do with either of those. Sounds like your usual tactics and the reason why I don’t respect or associate with people like you, I told you that before already though.

I’m curious about your business, though, is it something like the Red Hen in the U.S where you don’t serve people like me because I’m Conservative, or a Bernier supporter (undecided still)?

Nah im a photographer and very equal opportunity.

My apologies if you think i care about your nationality or religious leanings.

Because i dont.

A persons statements and actions are all that matters and ours are diametrically opposed.

You post very obvious material regarding immigrants.  Immigration.  Religious and political preferences

I post the opposite.

Doesn't make either of us right but speaks volumes at the same time

Liberals spending my tax dollars on immigrant policy before it is spent on our own homeless, insane and liberals with TDS? Nahhh...

Too bad it wasn’t a reciprocal policy where one could leave to go travel - be paid to live abroad in these fantastic countries from which these people are leaving.

No need to do that when you have racism like this (that is what this would be called if many others said what the Dalai Lama has been saying):

Dalai Lama - "Immigrants, go back home"

Quote
The Dalai Lama has sparked anger after declaring that “Europe belongs to the Europeans”.

The Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader also said that refugees should return to their native countries and assist with developing them.

The 14th Dalai Lama was speaking at a conference in Malmo, Sweden which is home to a large immigrant population, according to the Business Times.

“Receive them, help them, educate them ... but ultimately they should develop their own country,” the 83-year-old said, when speaking about refugees.

“I think Europe belongs to the Europeans.”

He was speaking in the aftermath of a divisive election in Sweden in which a far-right party, Swedish Democrats, made electoral gains, although they were beaten by the country's centre-left coalition.

The Dalai Lama also said that Europe was “morally responsible” for helping “a refugee really facing danger against their life”.

Social media users condemned the comments, calling the Dalai Lama a “bigot of the first order” and a “hypocrite”.

The spiritual leader is followed by millions of Buddhists around the world. He is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, but has made controversial comments about refugees in the past.

“Europe, for example Germany, cannot become an Arab country,” he said in an interview with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in 2016, in which he also said that there were “too many refugees” in Europe.

The Dalai Lama is a refugee himself. He led thousands of his followers from Tibet to India in 1959 after the Tibetans protested against Chinese limits on their autonomy.

The 83-tear-old continues to live in exile in northern India today.

So they want some immigrant version of affirmative action.....

Why not just let immigrants with actual skills from their home countries, like doctors, teachers, engineers, etc... and then just streamline their accreditation / transfer?

This. Canada does not need affirmative action for immigrants who are disgruntled, as none were told before arriving that they'd be a nuclear physicist or a surgeon, driving cabs instead (these are my personal experiences speaking). They just need a quick, streamlined process of integrating into the society with the same highly skilled work that got them qualified in the points based system in the first place.

According to the story that you posted, people are indeed calling the comments racist. So I’m not sure why you’re trying to claim double standards are being applied.
