It has been suggested that Greta Thunberg lives in the heads of conservatives, rent free....if you needed any more evidence:

A German teenager dubbed the “anti-Greta” – climate sceptics’ answer to the schoolgirl activist Greta Thunbergis set to address the biggest annual gathering of US grassroots conservatives.

Naomi Seibt, 19, who styles herself as a “climate sceptic” or “climate realist”, will this week address the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) near Washington, joining speakers including Donald Trump and Vice-President Mike Pence.

Seibt is in the pay of the Heartland Institute, a thinktank closely allied with the White House that denies established science showing humans are heating the planet with dangerous consequences.

CPAC will be the biggest stage yet for Seibt, a so-called “YouTube influencer” who tells her followers Thunberg and other activists are whipping up unnecessary hysteria by exaggerating the climate crisis.

“Climate change alarmism at its very core is a despicably anti-human ideology,” she has said.

The teenager, from Münster in western Germany, claims she is “without an agenda, without an ideology”. But she was pushed into the limelight by leading figures on the German far right and her mother, a lawyer, has represented politicians from the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party in court.

Seibt had her first essay published by the “anti-Islamisation” blog Philosophia Perennis and was championed by Martin Sellner, leader of the Austrian Identitarian Movement, who has been denied entry to the UK and US because of his political activism.

A Facebook post by the AfD youth wing names Seibt as a member and she spoke at a recent AfD event, though she has denied membership of the party.

In May 2019 she posted her first video on YouTube, reading out verses submitted for a poetry slam competition organised by the AfD.

The impact of the clip and its follow-ups put her on the radar of the Heartland Institute, which is based in Chicago. It has lobbied on behalf of the tobacco and coal industries but recently concentrated its efforts on challenging the scientific consensus on climate change.

Last December, as Thunberg addressed the United Nations’ Cop25 global warming summit in Madrid, Seibt gave the keynote speech at a rival conference organised by the Heartland Institute a few miles away.

In a sting operation carried out for German broadcaster ZDF and investigative outlet Correctiv, the Heartland Institute strategist James Taylor told journalists posing as potential donors his thinktank had signed up Seibt to record climate change sceptic videos for young people.

Seibt has admitted that she receives “an average monthly wage” from the institute. According to official figures, the average net monthly income in Germany is just under €1,900 (£1,590, $2,066).

The Heartland website features a low-budget video introducing Seibt, who speaks to the camera from what appears to be a home.

“I’ve got very good news for you,” she says. “The world is not ending because of climate change. In fact, 12 years from now we will still be around, casually taking photos on our iPhone 18s

“We are currently being force-fed a very dystopian agenda of climate alarmism that tells us that we as humans are destroying the planet. And that the young people, especially, have no future – that the animals are dying, that we are ruining nature.”

In another film, Naomi Seibt vs Greta Thunberg: Whom Should We Trust?, Seibt says: “Science is entirely based on intellectual humility and it is important that we keep questioning the narrative that is out there instead of promoting it, and these days climate change science really isn’t science at all.”

I can see it now:

"Hey guys! I found a German kid on Youtube who says that the Swedish kid is wrong!" "Lets invite her to come and tell us that Donald Trump is right, that Climate Change is a Chinese hoax!"

This story isn't going to garner a lot of sympathy for the Alberta Oil sector:

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/disgusting-sticker-of-greta-thunberg-linked-to-alberta-oil-shocks-canadians/ar-BB10umTx?li=AAggNb9

Michelle Narang cried when she first saw a sticker of what appears to be a cartoon of Greta Thunberg being sexually assaulted and the name of an oilfield company printed boldly across the bottom of the decal.

Narang, who lives in Rocky Mountain House in west-central Alberta, is a proud supporter of Canadian energy. Her relatives earn a living in the oil industry, which also supports the non-profit she works for. She calls the investment that oil and gas companies make in communities, like her town, “beautiful.”

“This is an industry Alberta is fighting for so desperately. This sticker is not something Alberta or Albertans need,” Narang told HuffPost Canada in an interview Thursday.

Narang decided she couldn’t stay silent. As someone who knows survivors of sexual assault, she never wants her 13-year-old son to see the sticker, or be OK with violence against women. So, she posted the image to Facebook as a way to call it out: “This company represents everything that the O&G industry needs to fight against.”

“Silence never creates change,” Narang said. “It’s sad to me (the sticker) went through a supply chain of people, who thought about it, printed it and distributed it. It blows my mind anyone would think it’s funny.”

A friend who works in the oil industry sent an image of the sticker to Narang. He spoke to HuffPost Canada on a condition of anonymity, fearing repercussions at his job. The sticker, reading “X-Site Energy Services,” was handed out recently as promotional material at job sites to be worn on hardhats, he said.

Although the actual stickers weren’t distributed at his workplace, he said the graphic image was circulating among his colleagues on Wednesday. He said his company was asked if it would be interested in a similar sticker.

“It was completely disgusting and wrong,” he said.

Narang said she called the general manager of X-Site, Doug Sparrow, asking him if he knew about the sticker that appears to depict the rape of a minor. He said he was aware of it, according to Narang, and his response was, “She’s not a child, she’s 17.”

Under the Criminal Codechild pornography is any visual representation of a person under the age of 18 engaged or depicted to be engaged in a sexual activity.

Imagine that some supposedly grown man thought the best way to criticize a 17 year old girl would be to depict her being sexually assaulted. Then imagine actually having the image printed as stickers or decals and distributing them to other men to affix to their vehicles. Apparently the RCMP are investigating. Good. The actions of the very few are not representative of the greater population, but there sure seem to be a lot of grown men in Alberta who hate this girl with a passion bordering on obsession. I can think of three or four Wexiteers who probably have the sticker on their pickups, just above their truck nuts.

I was going to lead off this excerpt from the CBC with some thoughtful remark but I'm not sure what I think about nuclear energy.

Full article at:             https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/bains-small-modular-reactors-net-zero-1.5763762

*****************************************************************************************************************************************

The federal government says it's investing $20 million in the nuclear industry to help Canada meet its target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The investment in Oakville Ontario's Terrestrial Energy is meant to help the firm bring small modular nuclear reactors to market.

"By helping to bring these small reactors to market, we are supporting significant environmental and economic benefits, including generating energy with reduced emissions, highly skilled job creation and Canadian intellectual property development," said Innovation Minister Navdeep Bains in a media statement.

Small modular reactors — SMRs — are smaller than a conventional nuclear power plant and can be built in one location before being transported and assembled elsewhere.

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited says it sees three major uses for SMRs in Canada:

Helping utilities replace energy capacity lost to closures of coal fired power plants.
Providing power and heat to off-grid industrial projects such as mines and oilsands developments.
Replacing diesel fuel as a source of energy and heat in remote communities.

The reactor that Terrestrial Energy hopes to have in production by the end of the decade is an Integral Molten Salt Reactor. The company says the reactor can provide additional utility power and power for industrial projects.

The company says that the reactor can produce up to 195 megawatts — enough to power a city the size of Regina — likely making it too powerful for use in remote communities.

Bains said nuclear energy is part of the energy mix Canada must have to reach its climate targets.

Mini solar grids would be a better thought process.Wind farms would be a better use of time as well.

I think a combination of all of the above would be the way to go. A diversified approach limits the demand on any one method of power generation. The trick is being able to tie all methods into the grid seamlessly.

Still, considering the technologies involved an all processes, I don't see it as that much of a barrier.

We need to break utilities down so things like alternative energy can be more affordable.

The government essentially needs to buy every mineral that gets brought out of the ground.

The Covid-19 epidemic has curtailed the climate protests that were gathering steam.

"The Nature of Things" on CBC recently had an interesting documentary on the rise of the protests and the response during the epidemic:

It also mentioned a group called "Fridays For Future" which I'd never heard of but they have some interesting commercials.  For instance:

Interesting editorial from Al Gore in the NY Times.

Full editorial at:

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/12/opinion/sunday/biden-climate-change-al-gore.html?campaign_id=2&emc=edit_th_20201213&instance_id=24999&nl=todaysheadlines&regi_id=56405277&segment_id=46781&user_id=dc88543b79693b0f05322365a827e237

This weekend also marks the fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Paris Agreement. One of President Trump’s first orders of business nearly four years ago was to pull the United States out of the accord, signed by 194 other nations to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases threatening the planet. With Mr. Trump heading for the exit, President-elect Biden plans to rejoin the agreement on his Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.

Now, with Mr. Biden about to take up residence in the White House, the United States has the chance to reclaim America’s leadership position in the world after four years in the back seat.

Mr. Biden’s challenges will be monumental. Most immediately, he assumes office in the midst of the chaos from the colossal failure to respond effectively to the coronavirus pandemic and the economic devastation that has resulted.

And though the pandemic fills our field of vision at the moment, it is only the most urgent of the multiple crises facing the country and planet, including 40 years of economic stagnation for middle-income families; hyper-inequality of incomes and wealth, with high levels of poverty; horrific structural racism; toxic partisanship; the impending collapse of nuclear arms control agreements; an epistemological crisis undermining the authority of knowledge; recklessly unprincipled behavior by social media companies; and, most dangerous of all, the climate crisis.

What lies before us is the opportunity to build a more just and equitable way of life for all humankind. This potential new beginning comes at a rare moment when it may be possible to break the stranglehold of the past over the future, when the trajectory of history might be altered by what we choose to do with a new vision.

Happy Birthday Greta!

***********************************************************************************************************************************

https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/03/us/greta-thunberg-turns-18-twitter-trnd/index.html

(CNN)Greta Thunberg turned 18 on Sunday, and she thanked her fans with a snarky Twitter message about how she was celebrating.

The Swedish activist has been known for her sarcasm and wit since coming onto the world stage at age 15, so it might be no surprise she would have some fun with her birthday message using the same tone.

"Thank you so much for all the well-wishes on my 18th birthday!" she said. "Tonight you will find me down at the local pub exposing all the dark secrets behind the climate- and school strike conspiracy and my evil handlers who can no longer control me! I am free at last!!"

Yep. And when you consider he's just relating how the company itself conducts itself (despite the denials of their CEO) it just goes to show how the oil and gas industry operates in general.

Sooo....first the "Chinese Hoax" contributes to a massive heat wave and drought in the west of North America and now it seems to be causing problems of a different sort in Europe:

https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/15/europe/germany-deaths-severe-flooding-intl/index.html

Quote

At least 46 people have died due to severe flooding in western Europe, caused by what experts described as the heaviest rainfall in a century.

Up to 70 people are missing in Germany after flash floods swept across western and southern parts of the country, causing buildings to collapse, police said Thursday. Germany is worst hit with 40 people killed, while six people died in Belgium. Luxembourg and the Netherlands are also affected.
"In some areas we have not seen this much rainfall in 100 years," Andreas Friedrich, a German weather service (DWD) spokesman, told CNN. He added that "in some areas we've seen more than double the amount of rainfall which has caused flooding and unfortunately some building structures to collapse."
The German regions of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland were worst affected, Friedrich added.
The German regions of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland were worst affected, Friedrich added.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman offered her condolences to the families of the victims. "I am shocked by the disaster that so many people in the flood areas have to endure. My sympathies go out to the families of the dead and missing," Steffen Seibert wrote on Twitter.
Merkel is currently in Washington DC to meet President Joe Biden Thursday during what is likely her last visit to the US before stepping down as Chancellor in the fall after 16 years in power.
Armin Laschet, the premier of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Conservatives' candidate to succeed Merkel, visited affected parts of the region on Thursday.
"We will be faced with such events over and over, and that means we need to speed up climate protection measures, on European, federal and global levels, because climate change isn't confined to one state," Laschett said.
In neighboring Belgium, at least six people died in floods in the southern region of Wallonia, CNN affiliate RTBF reported Thursday, citing the magistrate on duty at the Verviers prosecutor's office and the governor of the Liège province.
The Wallonia region borders North Rhine-Westphalia. The floods have also disrupted Belgium's national railway network, Infrabel, stopping services in the French-speaking south of the country, the company said Thursday in a press release.
France has offered to send 40 firefighters to Belgium, the French interior minister Gérald Darmanin tweeted on Thursday.
And the European Union activated the civil emergency response mechanism to help areas of Belgium affected by floods, the EU Commission said Thursday in a statement.
"Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Germany you can count on the EU's help to face these dramatic floods. My thoughts are with the victims of these tragic events and with all who will have to rebuild what they have lost. I want to thank all rescue teams for their invaluable help and relentless efforts," EU Council president Charles Michel tweeted Thursday.
Shipping was also suspended on the River Rhine, one of Germany's longest and most important arteries of industrial transport, according to NTV news.
DWD spokesman Friedrich said the downpours were caused by cooler and warmer rainfall mixing. "It came from France at the beginning of the week to Germany and has been sitting over Germany for the last 48 hours," he said.
"For now we predict the worst of the torrential rainfall is over, though more heavy rain is due in southwestern Germany on the upper reaches of the Rhine, [Thursday] and Friday," he added.

Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of these movements are funded covertly by oil companies, discredit global warming advocates by associating them with other movements.

Cancel culture is cancer culture IMO, it takes the focus off of real problems that affect real people, not a bunch of rich people using the little guy to do their bidding against each other.

If you get people to lose focus on a particular issue by intersectionalizing (god I hate that word) with some other issue, it gets diluted, and that's a problem.

Anyways I'm going on a rant that will soon end up in weird places.

Real solutions like limiting the population, temporarily reviving the nuclear industry while other means are developed are scoffed at. I laugh at the family with four kids worried about global warming, maybe they should have used a condom? Exporting garbage and other environmentally damaging products to third world nations, out of sight of of mind. Importing those same things from third world nations and having their ships sink polluting the ocean. Importing junk goods from far off places, "but then those things would cost too much money". Here's the thing though, you know that thing millenials and whatnot are complaining about how their parents could afford a house and blah blah blah... maybe they could afford a house because their wages weren't being suppressed by a bloated work force, and when they were young, most goods were manufactured in country, not imported from China because "cheap". The biggest lie we were told by the rich was that it was necessary for us to be able to afford things. Now there are more billionaires than ever and they profited so extremely much from the pandemic, and we continue to buy their cheap crap all the while cheering them on their vain space race.

Yeah I'm really ranting now... what's my point... good question.

My point is the way things were are achievable, and their needs to be a voice to explain that maybe we can get there without the bigotry and racism, where we can have old school fiscally conservative values while still being socially and morally accepting of the differences that once divided us, without making an issue of them. People think it takes a long time and a lot of hawing and humming and grumbling, but all it takes is a matter of will power, it's not that hard really.

Sorry Rupert, most of this has nothing to do with what you wrote.
