McDonnough is 24, so his age makes him a 2 year ELC, regardless of whether he signs early with us or waits until August to be a UFA. Hopefully Allvin, after meeting recently with the family, knows what the player will choose. Although, how much trade value would McDonnough have anyway? If we are trading his rights, that’s saying he is going to August free agency and we know it. So no team will want him, except for the team that he wants to sign with in August. And what would that team trade for his rights, when knowing they get him in a couple months as a UFA? Pretty much we needed to trade his rights last summer. Now, he has zero value. He signs with us or it’s nothing in return. Moving McDonaugh would be a throw in on a multi player deal. He has limited trade value. Whether he signs with Van or not is something I would hope he would be up front about with PA. We can be optimistic because there is lots of opportunity in Vancouver.
