[Proposal] Eriksson + (?) for Brown

Recommended Posts

Just scrolling through Eriksson contract comparables on Capfriendly and came across Dustin 'Potato' Brown and wondered if there might be a way to swap him and Eriksson around for 'minimal' cost. Even if after Eriksson's July bonus is paid this summer.

In exchange, they save on actual cash left owing. Eriksson's only got prorated $1m salary left owing this season then $4m and $4m (salary + bonuses) vs Brown's prorated $5.5m then $4 and $4m (all salary). Or even more savings after Eriksson's bonus of only $5m left owing over 2 years vs Brown's $8m over two.

They get the one year younger player, actual cash savings and some rebuild assets. We get a still productive (0.5ppg'ish) and physical player and rid of the negative distraction that is Eriksson (and save $125k in cap space). Brown might even mesh well with Horvat (or perhaps Gaudette etc on a 3rd line). Brown likely waives his MNTC to come play with an up and coming team with a shot at playoffs, still in the same time zone/relatively close to the city he's called home for a decade +.

Now the real question becomes what rebuild asset(s) we'd be willing to give up to make this happen and how much this would cost for LAK to consider....

I like the idea of Brown, but the term and dollars is a no.  The longer LE stays up, when clearly he should be in Utica tells me that he's retiring after his July 2020 bonus.  That's better than having Brown on the books for the extra years.

If JB doesn't have the gentleman's deal with LE, then I'd want to make the deal, but would include Madden (who is light (155) still, so may stay the full four years in college to mature more physically) and keep Lockwood.

You and your “gentleman’s agreement” theory is just wishful thinking. There’s literally nothing that indicates that’s the case.

Rick Dhaliwal said, at the start of the season, that Green wanted to send Loui to Utica, but JB blocked that move.  Loui should be in Utica, but he's not.  What other reason is there for Loui to still be on the team?  And there will never be any solid evidence of a player and an owner/GM having a gentleman's agreement.  Look at the Luongo retirement last summer, and now he's got some pseudo assistant GM job in FLA.  Luongo gave up 3 million dollars, and the Panthers hire him to a job where his salary doesn't need to be disclosed.  There will never be actual evidence of a gentleman's deal; hence the term.

I like it, in part because the buy out isn't too bad. He's also more productive than Loui, and can add in some physical play and bring some playoff experience.

Brown has a 7 team no trade list so we may not be on that, so it could be out of his hands too.

LA needs young assets of course.... my concern would be them demanding Woo, e.g., but if they were willing to look at a combo of something like Madden and Raffety or Briesbois, something along those lines then yup.

That d group tho... what a train wreck. Maybe Breezy and Raffety and Loui for Brown?

There literally could be a dozen or more reasons.  Including keeping a good relationship with Ericksson’s very powerful agent.  You assuming that it’s proof of a gentleman’s agreement is just wishful thinking

Dustin Brown's last three season 0.74PPG, 0.71 PPG, and 0.53 PPG this season and 3rd scorer of his team and a combined +16 during these 3 years.  2 more years at 5.875M$

Loui Eriksson's last three season 0.46PPG, 0.36 PPG and 0.06PPG this season and dead last scorer of his team and a combined -14 during these years.  2 more years at 6M$

This is not even comparable, not even close to Neal vs Lucic deal either.   You would need to add significantly for LA to take that deal.

why? its happened before. Its not like @Alflives is making up some new category of shenanigans. Luongo clearly had a handshake deal in place.

LA is much closer to Dallas where Eriksson's family is living. Dustin Brown would probably like the prospect of playing for a possible playoff team for his last 3 years.

Maybe + Tryamkin's rights? There is no guarantee he will be playing for us after his contract is up...

WTF?  People want to trade TYLER MADDEN to dump Loui?  Are you serious??  Madden is a stud, he may be better than Gaudette.  He could be this year's Hobey Baker award winner.  This is nuts...

Does Alf qualify as 'people'?

So what's the happy medium? Who does it make sense for us to give up that would be enough for LAK to consider and make sense for us to give up?

anyone not named Juolevi, Tryamkin, Rathbone, Lind, Woo, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Lockwood or DiPietro. Take 2 even. It has to be for a couple of our "B" prospects, thats really the only option. Maybe a 3rd.
