Ya but he didn’t play a game. So how did he get injured?

Looks like got banged up n practice.  Was out with groin issue  now out with upper body injury..they shut him down until after Xmas break..maybe just giving him extra time to fully heal so he doesn't tweak his groin again.

Dec 21: Sutter (upper body) isn't expected to return until after the holiday break. Sutter will miss Saturday's game against the Penguins and should remain on the shelf until Dec. 28 at the earliest. With Josh Leivo (kneecap) also ruled out, Tyler Motte should slot into the bottom six.

Dec 19: Sutter will not dress for Thursday's game against the Golden Knights. Sutter is reportedly "a little banged up," though it's unclear if it's the same groin issue that caused him to miss extended time recently. Either Loui Eriksson or Tim Schaller will presumably replace him in Thursday's lineup.

Dec 14: Sutter (groin) has been activated from injured reserve and is expected to suit up for Saturday's game in San Jose, Jeff Paterson of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports. Sutter has missed 13 games with his groin injury, last suiting up on Nov. 12. The 30-year-old New York native has five goals and eight points in 19 games this season.

Dec 14: Sutter (groin) said he is healthy and may play in Saturday's game against the Sharks. There's no guarantee that Sutter will be inserted into Saturday's lineup, but it's a positive sign that he's ready to go. The veteran forward's next step will be activated from IR. Sutter has five goals and eight points through 19 games this year, and he's expected to return to a bottom-six role if he's in.
