IMHO it takes 20 games to evaluate a team. Especially the Canucks with their turnover. Coming out of the Covid season could take some time.

I am a big advocate of balanced TOI. Last night the Panthers forward group didn’t have a player at more than 18 minutes. The Canucks have to head in that direction if the6 want to be a contender. Hughes was back up to 27 minutes again. Rathbone was having a tough game but if you plan to develop him in the NHL then you have to play him 14-15 minutes. If not send him to Abby.

Big Mac is back in town so I will watch him with interest.

Fully agree.

Hughes playing 27 minutes and forwards getting 20+ minutes is a sign of a coach that doesn't trust bottom half of his roster.

I mean we are comparing Florida team, coached by three time cup champion and has some amazing records vs a coach that is still trying to carve out his career as an NHL coach.

I think the right move was to let Green go and bring in someone with more experience. Even Florida before Quenneville was sort of mediocre despite boasting some great young talents.

We could be like Florida with an experienced coach.

But that ship has sailed and it's fair to give about 20 games to know where things stand.

Some of what they have to clean up in my mind:  crisper passes, less "no look" passes that lead to glaring turnovers (love JT but that's become a go to for him), when they do breakout don't always veer off to "set up"...drive at the net more when you're on the rush (see:  "Bo") and don't give THEM a chance to set up defensively.  Hoglander also goes right at the net and sometimes you need to just keep it simple like that.   I think it's more about running on instinct and not overthinking things, which may come with the rust being fully shaken off.  Seems to be what happens at times...these guys are tentative and seem confused (coaching issue)?  If you're getting so much information that you can't even process it all, makes it hard to execute.  Simplify.   Have to consider that sometimes coaches have a bit of ego and are hard to move off their stances but it may be necessary?  Just like people with opinions here (me included in that)...we get stubborn because "our way" is right.

I have total faith that we'll see this team do what they're capable of doing...provided they're given the leash to do so and can be organically creative.  Sometimes those set plays just are stale and so predictable.  Not to abandon everything, but keep it fresh and allow for improvising if opportunities present themselves.  I'm no coach so this is just my internal/gut feeling when watching them.  That some of the stuff is just them being in their heads (Petey) and if you continue to drive information at them it adds to that.  At some point, ease off and let them work it out.  The fact that some saw Greener going at Brock makes me wonder if it's his own frustration being vented AT the team rather than anything constructive that will help them.  I've been a Green fan but, at some point, you have to start to wonder "why" it is failing.  If a team looks unmotivated, it could be like any other workplace where you start tuning out.

With all this, I'm on board and know that a few good wins can be the turning point.  Momentum and chemistry are so big in this deal so let's hope we start to see some of that.  Just offering some insight from a face value perspective that doesn't delve into x's and o's (that are beyond me).

3-2 isn't a devastating loss but the score doesn't always tell the whole story.  I want a convincing win tonight to ease this nagging little voice in my head.  Kick some butt boys!   Let's start to shed this shadow of doubt.

That whole sentence can be summed up with a replace Rathbone with someone who can play at the NHL level, I think

I thought the Canucks would have had a little more jump last game, but I guess it can be difficult coming back off such a long road trip, and the pressure to win in front of your fans can actually work against you at times, but tonight they better have that jump. They have had a chance to settle in at this point and better be raring to go against a team on back to back nights.

No more excuses tonight!

Go Canucks Go! 5-3 Win.

This is what I like about Cull, he openly admits he doesn’t want to kill that offensive instinct of his. He knows it’s special and wants to work with him to round out the rest of his game. With Green if you don’t play his system he doesn’t seem to know what to do with you.

Lol, what does this even mean? How on earth would one determine this from their tv set. :picard:

I'm sure we saw proof of the above during the bubble, when there was less time for coaches input.

Our most organically creative player EP, is now unrecognizable from his impact when just a kid.

He dropped to us fully-formed, or as his Swedish coaches quipped 'Elias came here to teach us hockey'.

What I wonder, did Travis ever think he could teach EP?

A good back-checker?  PK'er?  F/O specialist?

At 22, EP's no longer a kid, and 3 years from now we will have paid him $22million dollars.

Presently he often looks like he'd rather be playing for free, having fun somewhere else.

This will be a really tough game for us tonight. We caught the Flyers on a bad day last time and Hart was not very good in goal. Since then they've beaten up the Kraken 6-1, Boston 6-3, and put an end to the Oilers' win streak, so we need to be on the top of our game. Anything less than a full 60 minute effort is not good enough.
