With no back to back in sight and Demko playing the last four game, I wonder when Halak gets another start?  Can't imagine he'll go against Edmonton.  Probably the NYR game?  Or could he be in tonight?

I could see them giving him a game against an Eastern opponent, especially since he has been playing in the East the last few years.

Some of what they have to clean up in my mind:  crisper passes, less "no look" passes that lead to glaring turnovers (love JT but that's become a go to for him), when they do breakout don't always veer off to "set up"...drive at the net more when you're on the rush (see:  "Bo") and don't give THEM a chance to set up defensively.  Hoglander also goes right at the net and sometimes you need to just keep it simple like that.   I think it's more about running on instinct and not overthinking things, which may come with the rust being fully shaken off.  Seems to be what happens at times...these guys are tentative and seem confused (coaching issue)?  If you're getting so much information that you can't even process it all, makes it hard to execute.  Simplify.   Have to consider that sometimes coaches have a bit of ego and are hard to move off their stances but it may be necessary?  Just like people with opinions here (me included in that)...we get stubborn because "our way" is right.

I have total faith that we'll see this team do what they're capable of doing...provided they're given the leash to do so and can be organically creative.  Sometimes those set plays just are stale and so predictable.  Not to abandon everything, but keep it fresh and allow for improvising if opportunities present themselves.  I'm no coach so this is just my internal/gut feeling when watching them.  That some of the stuff is just them being in their heads (Petey) and if you continue to drive information at them it adds to that.  At some point, ease off and let them work it out.  The fact that some saw Greener going at Brock makes me wonder if it's his own frustration being vented AT the team rather than anything constructive that will help them.  I've been a Green fan but, at some point, you have to start to wonder "why" it is failing.  If a team looks unmotivated, it could be like any other workplace where you start tuning out.

With all this, I'm on board and know that a few good wins can be the turning point.  Momentum and chemistry are so big in this deal so let's hope we start to see some of that.  Just offering some insight from a face value perspective that doesn't delve into x's and o's (that are beyond me).

3-2 isn't a devastating loss but the score doesn't always tell the whole story.  I want a convincing win tonight to ease this nagging little voice in my head.  Kick some butt boys!   Let's start to shed this shadow of doubt.

don't get me wrong, set plays have their place in sports, but the spur of the moment/ off the cuff/ unpredictable plays work just as well.

if you do the same thing EVERYTIME, ie: always enter the zone near the boards and circle towards the boards before passing back to the blue line like some team ALWAYS does.

- teams can pick off those passes too easily.

- drive the net like a banshee.

-force the goalie to make a save( and by that I mean hit the blinkin' net!!!)

-while shooting , don't always shoot for the center of the goalie's crest cause that NEVER goes in.

-you don't have to make 'hi-light reel' plays on every time you touch the puck.

-we've got team speed now but we don't use it. you're never going to score by always passing backwards.

and along that line, if you hit the blueline doing 30 kph with the puck the other team is forced to hold/hook you going by.

when you get the pp...big body or 2 in front of the goalie then  shoot-shoot-shoot. ( but hit the net )

This is why I feel like the Sedins are so special.

The set plays and the cycle game down low. Everyone knows what they are going to do, but no one can break that cycle without a crosscheck to the back, even then, they keep the cycle going.

But seeing as that we don't have any player at the same caliber as the Sedins just yet, I agree. Petey's certainly less lethal after unpredictability aspect his game disappeared.

The lotto line in JT Miller's first season with the team was great with Petey getting a lot of touches with the puck. But after some point, the plays always ran through Miller, I guess as Petey received tighter checking. And as good as Miller is, he's prone to some really bad mistakes, especially at the opponent's blueline, typically resulting in handcuffing our defenders.

I think Green needs to find a way to free up Petey so that he gets more touches.

With the "second" line putting up points, if the first line gets going, the team will be unstoppable. And there's that third line featuring Hoglander to contend with for other teams.

If Green can't coach this team into a surefire playoff team with this roster, he really should be let go. There's literally no more excuse. Even defence is not as bad as people thought.

We now know that OEL is a #1D.

We have a PP specialist and offensive catalyst from the back end in Hughes.

Got pretty decent top 4s in Myers and Poolman. And we are getting Hamonic back.

There's really no excuse. We better beat Philly tonight.

IMHO it takes 20 games to evaluate a team. Especially the Canucks with their turnover. Coming out of the Covid season could take some time.

I am a big advocate of balanced TOI. Last night the Panthers forward group didn’t have a player at more than 18 minutes. The Canucks have to head in that direction if the6 want to be a contender. Hughes was back up to 27 minutes again. Rathbone was having a tough game but if you plan to develop him in the NHL then you have to play him 14-15 minutes. If not send him to Abby.

Big Mac is back in town so I will watch him with interest.
