[Proposal] Flipped Script, Later Petey Welcome to Nashville

Recommended Posts

This is a super simple idea.  Everyone is convinced Miller will bring back the single highest possible return on investment right now.  This is inarguable.  yet at the same time are convinced that Petey will somehow not be as sheltered without Miller, we won't be as competitive, and that Petey might never be that 1c

So let's just for fun flip the script and do the following.

To Nashville:  E. Pettersson, 10% retained

To Vancouver:  D. Fabbro, L. Prokop 2022 1st round pick, 2023 5th round pick.

Yes, value might be off a bit.  OK off a lot because of course people will say petey is now somehow not worth squat or something.  But Nashville gets the type of player they're missing, a purely offensive weapon.  Vancouver gets one of my fave D prospects in the last few years, Fabbro and an absolute beast in Prokop both of whom are RHDs.  The additional pick is always nice for a new GM as well.

Alright, flame it.

I really like Fabbro, but I would prefer a C coming back.  Luke Kunin is a right shooting C, physical player, who looks to have some offensive upside.  At 24, he would fit right in with the core.

Sell at an all-time low on Petey after he recently re-upped - no thanks.

Sell at an all-time high on Miller when he's a just about a season from UFA - that's how JR/All Allvin can keep the team progressing.

Give Petey benefit of the doubt,  he's not going to simply disappear if Miller gets traded.  He's bouncing back and with the new coaching staff he'll be fine.

I’m hesitant to trade a 23 year old player, who’s had some great seasons already under his belt in his earlier 20’s. This would be a trade that would bite us in the ass in a couple of years. So, I’d have to say..

Fabbro was a really nice prospect back then, but he's a top 4 at best right now.  At 23 he's still young but will never be a top pair defenseman IMO.  If we trade Petey I would hope it's a Jones/Johansen, type of trade rather than forsberg/erat trade like someone mentionned.

I remember another Swedish superstar that took a few years to find his A game

This was the main topic of discussion on Donnie and Dhali today with Don Rick and Craig Button going through the discussion.

Conclusion was sign Miller trade petey for a top young D.

So my basis for this is/was the endless back and forth on Miller, which has turned in to a "Petey won't survive without Miller to shelter him" statement.

Prokop is a bruisingly large young RHD that can skate like a forward.  he might never be a 40 point D man but paired with someone like Hughes and he's an absolute gem.  he's only 19 as well and is absolutely cost controlled.  Fabbro is also a great RHD who will possibly be a 30-40 point rhd in his prime and would look great paired beside OEL.  Added that 1st round pick, which while later in the 1st would still be an additional pick.

This would give us the ability to retain miller, get 2 great RHD youth players and build a grittier team with a far better start on the back end than we've had in well...forever.

I'm hesitant to bet all our chips on hoping someone else's rhd prospect pans out for us in a single trade through Miller or Petey but one has to go and we need one of those back.  This trade nets us 2

Im not familiar with Prokop-describe his game if you dont mind?

Also, looking at cap friendly, genuinely was surprised how well NSH is doing with all that cap space.  That team has options.

He skates very well for a big guy.  6 foot 4 or 6 foot 5 now.  Almost 200 pound RHD.  Has a decent amount of snarl to his game and can  get shots on net.  19 years old and Nashville has this insane ability to source out quality D prospects.

They could absorb the loss of Fabbro and Prokop as well as that pick for a cost controlled Pettersson.  They also have Matier and Ufko as solid young RHD prospects that will help them absorb the loss of Fabro and Prokop

Reminds me of when Washington traded Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat.   Ouch  And some people complain about Benning's trades

Ya that was an ugly trade made in desperation.  I don't see how us obtaining 2 quality RHD prospects and a 1st round pick for the loss of a will he/won't he possible 1st line C or potential 2nd line winger in Petey (if he ever figures it out) will end up as an ouchy

Hey NO arguments from me at all.

This is to counter all the "petey can't do it without miller" talk I keep reading.

Looking at all variables from those conversations I wanted to see about checking multiple boxes for both partners and Nashville can absorb the losses of 2 assets because Petey may/may not be that players they've literally always needed.  While we, can not ignore the potential of 2 quality RHD youth and an additional pick plus cap space

Petey for me is an untouchable. There's far too much untapped game in him yet.

Yes, he's having a bit of a down year but all good players experience those. I have full confidence he brings his "A" game next season.

I am not sold on Fabbro. So far he's shown to be a decent defender but Fabbro's real value is in his offensive potential. So far he's not brought consistent scoring The Preds had hoped for.

The player that, actually, intrigues me the most is Prokop.

As a fan of a big defense, Prokop difinitely fits. At 6'4 219lbs, he's definitely got freight train written all over him. He's got above average speed, good mobility in all directions, can lay the big hits while not taking himself out of position or taking bad penalties, and is dependable in the defensive zone. While his offensive numbers are modest at best, scouts say there's some untapped ability that could be developed. At worst we'd be getting a big, physicical, defensive specialist for a third pairing role. I'd definitely be into snatching him up in a lesser deal.

Tanner Pearson could be a name here. He gives them a bit of an upgrade at left wing with playoff experience.

Tanner Pearson for Luke Prokop.,

If we could get Prokop or mature for Pearson I'd look the other way in a few questionable trades from jr based on that good will alone

That’s where scouting and research needs to be done by our management team before a trade is made for a particular prospect.

I’m a fan of Pettersson, so I’m more inclined to go with the young guy.

I still think Miller doesn’t want to be here. So for me, he’s the one that makes the most sense to go, and get huge assets in return for.
