The offseason awaits, we'll have a broader pool of suitors if we choose to move big ticket players.

Exactly.

Everyone was so focused on two teams they forget there’s 20+ other teams out there that have good prospects that would love to add Miller.

A broader pool offers more diversity to choose from, which makes sense if we want flex

The issue is just how long will Miller's extension be?

Could be too much money for too old a player at the end.

But paying for younger players (Boeser) that aren't worth their current deals and may never be worth the money at any point in their contracts is smorter. At least we know we are getting several seasons of full value of an elite player with Miller.

Yeah I guess it could be Ferland all over again. Why can't we just draft and develop our own tom wilson kind of player ffs.

I was wishing for that 3rd we'd have been in on Deslauriers.  he's shown up already for the Wild

Yes but how many teams will be able to afford him at $9 million?  Nobody is going to trade for Miller in the summer unless an extension is worked out. That limits the number of teams that can trade for him. Also, if Miller refuses to sign an extension with the Canucks then our leverage with him is shot.

We aren’t getting a Kings ransom for Miller for one year of playoff hockey. The return we get in any Miller deal will be much lower than people are expecting.

And we weren’t gonna get a kings ransom at this years deadline otherwise we would have traded him.

Theres no reason why a team looking to make a splash can’t trade for him and sign him to an extension. There’s quite a few good teams that have the cap space and are ready to add. Plus teams that have stars with contracts expiring that need replacing.

If the Canucks decide his number is too big I’m sure they can still fetch a young player, blue chip prospect and a pick. A 90+ point player for even one season for a team looking to get to the next level still has a ton of value.

that may have been a roadblock for this TDL. Teams may not have wanted to part with 3 or 4 pieces knowing they couldn't resign him to something reasonable.

We may actually do better once his agent can talk to other teams about an extension prior to moving him.
