I think this season was a big turn around for the franchise, and it's mainly due to coaching. We've been a .500 or below team for far too long and finally we're a winning team, just not winning enough.

I think the off-season will be fairly quiet, I think Alvin and co. are relatively conservative, and hopefully we'll ice a very similar team to what we have now.

I'd really like to see what Bruce can do with this team with a proper training camp. Our players are mostly going to get better.

Petey will be better. Hughes will be the same. Podkolzin and (hopefully) Hoglander will be much better. Boeser has to be better. I think Garland will be better. Pearson and Miller will be the same. OEL and Myers will be the same hopefully. Demko will be better prepared for a full season.

If we're a .500 team or below around Christmas I think it's fair to do a mini blow up but let's see what they can do with an off-season where for once in years the team is shuffled and dismantled.

you do realize that since the Bruce Bump

the Canucks have played well enough to squeak into the 8th play off spot once in 3 months.

the Bump 8-0-1 = fantastic point % .944

the rest of January 4-4-3 =.500% = not close to the play offs

February=6-4-0 = .600% = final playoff spot

March =6-5-3 = .536% = out

The Bump was great, but do you think this team starts next year and every year 8-0-1?

Even if we do, playing the rest of the season like we have since January 2022 we probably fall out of the playoffs again = approx. 94 points

I always get excited for the next year. Mainly because I want the season to get going after a summer without hockey, and I love the game. But I don't actually think about optimism for the teams season until preseason gets going and I have a good idea what the roster will actually look like. Trades can happen anywhere from end of season to end of preseason. So I don't think much about next season until next season arrives.

As long as we don't start the season 8-15-2 we'll be fine.

Maybe it’s just me but is anyone else finding it hard to get excited for next year? I look at our depth and the lack of prospects in the system. I keep hearing they may want to retain Boeser and keep Miller and it doesn’t sound like a lot of change might happen. I am also worried about the bad contracts we have on this team and how they might limit their ability to make changes. If we are seeing that some of these contracts as bad then what do other teams think of them and why would they want them? They really handcuff what the organization can do. It’s mostly the depth in the system that bothers me. It’s crazy to look at Tampa and Colorado who are already great teams but they can always go their system and get more. Anyways, is there anyone else with the same thoughts. I am hopeful with the new management and I am so happy Benning isn’t here anymore.

I’m excited for Canucks hockey every year. If we do well that’s just a bonus.

Been with this team through a lot of dark days but it never makes me any less excited.

After the cup final in 94 and subsequent postseason losses It was heartbreaking seeing that team torn apart and dragged into the ground by he who must not be named.

Although the team was losing i watched Naslund and Bertuzzi blossom into superstars and the beginning of the WCE.

We’re seeing it again now witnessing the fall of the sedin era. Watching guys like Petey Hughes and Demko blossom.

keep your head up good days are coming!

well as I pointed out, 8-0-1 won't help unless we play better than we have the rest of the way

If a GM can't replenish a prospect pool or construct a team with depth in 8 years, they don't deserve that position.

The depth is so bad because Benning was impatient and traded away his prospects for help now, like Forsling, McCann. Both are playing in top 2 and top 6 roles in their orgs respectively, had Benning just stayed still, we would be better off.

Gillis did screw the pooch hard, but he left Benning in a better position for a rebuild than what Benning left this current group. He set up the Utica Farm team that didn't exist before, even Prospect Pool and Salary cap wise it was better. At least when Gillis was gone Horvat and Markstrom were in the system, there was cap flexibility and tradeable contracts (that Benning chose not to move).

This team is in purgatory/mediocrity, and can't easily shift to a rebuild or retool as well because of just how tight we are against the cap with immoveable contracts.

The depth was bad BEFORE Benning took over.

Not sure if its just me or the last 15 games the way the Canucks are playing is pretty boring hockey...no intensity and no urgency at all. I used to remember back in the days with Pat Quinn, our team would play hard and tough every night. Even though the games we lost at least we can say the guys played hard and tough against. And at least I felt good paying my money to watch them. The group we currently have is a no show on most nights and you need full 60mins of playing hard to win in the NHL these days to be consistent. I don't think we have the right mix of players to get excited for next year. So let's hope we make a few big moves during the off season and bring in players that can play and work hard every night. Maybe a new Captain is needed to start the change!!! The no touch hockey nice guy Captain mentality has to change. We need a Captain like the Steamer and Trevor was once that brought hard work and played tough every night against their opponents. Would you guys agree we need a new Captain? And if so who would you like to see?

If Miller isn't traded this off season. Then expect 10 more years of mediocrity.

Miller is not worth that much partner. He's 29 and is only under contract for a year more. He will be 30 next year and that's it for his contract. He's having a career year which is great but not a secret.

The answer to turn the nux around may include a deal on Miller but it's not the whole answer by any means.  At the same time we could keep him and climb the mountain a different route.

Our new management is tasked with this job.  Are they up to it?  I don't know. I hope so - but I don't know.

Absolutely, and I have been this way since 1971. Pat Quinn once remarked that in hockey, they're in the business of selling hope. That's what fires me up every off-season; to see what moves the team makes, to read and hear about what players have done in the off-season to prepare for the upcoming year and to follow the draft, free agency and the trade market. And I support, without question, the moves the team makes, mostly because I have zero control over it so am not going to waste my time complaining. I support whoever the GM is until they aren't the GM anymore, and I don't waste time moaning about what a dud the last guy was. Again, out of my control, so why sweat it? Having said all that, I am eager to see how Rathbone, Klimovich, Woo, Karlsson, Lockwood, Bains and Martin have grown and if they can crack the lineup. There is ALWAYS something to be excited about.

I like Miller but lets be real.   Top players that actually lead their teams to anything relevant dont consistently make the mistakes he does.  I would likd him to stay, but if this team wants to be a legit contender we need complete players that are a little more reliable.

On offense, We have to somehow find 1 or 2 legit top line players to compliment Horvat, Miller,  Petey and hope Podz and Hogz keep progressing.  Then we need a legit #1 dman to compliment Hughes, OEL, Myers.  Till that happens we are middle of the pack.

But what about when they try to sell average at best players as cornerstone elite players?  Aqua and his marketing team have been doing it for years and fans who dont know any better eat it up.

Its time this fanbase wake up and let management know we want players that can take us to something relevant.

A lower middling team like Vancouver needs some luck in the draft.  Finding quality NHL contributors in the 1st is essential.  Hitting the mark on rounds 2-7 on an occasion is also needed to reach the upper tier of the league.   There is no sure fire recipe to build.  Tampa has done a great job drafting with later picks.

I'm always excited for hockey.

I just don't understand what people's expectations are/were. The Canucks were in a dog fight right before the season started in arguably the worst division. Their d is bad.

When people bring it up "it's media bias". And here we are, right where most people thought they'd be.

Sit back, enjoy hockey and drink some beersh.

LOL what is your solution and you are happy with the current team lol!!! Don't know what kind of hockey you have been watching.

You actually think Bo being the captain is even remotely near the top of the problems with this team? He has had a very good season overall, probably going to net 32 or so goals. All while being whacked pretty good by COVID a second time. You think that, lets say, JT Miller wearing the C is going to magically cure our teams ills? LOL. I’d go as far to say that JT doesn’t exactly have the ideal temperament to be a captain. A captain doesn’t have to be the rah rah, flashy high producer on a particular team. Don’t hear talk of Tavares having his C ripped off his chest to be given to Austin Porn Stache, do you?

The problem is an overall lack of talent spread throughout the roster. Bo is just fine and been one of the high points in a very disappointing season. The constant quest for whipping boys for this teams poor performance is quite something. This team simply needs more talent, top to bottom. I’m not convinced that JR and his pupil Allvin are the ones who are going to get it done. Hope I’m wrong.

I'm a sucker...I buy the HOPE that the Canucks sell every off season and end up with a heaping pile of disappointment by April.  Wash, rinse, repeat.  The story of being a Canucks fan.

Millers schtik wears thin on other players pretty fast.  The guys here who are advocating miller as captain have never played team sports.
