[Speculation] Canucks may offer sheet an RFA this summer

wouldn't they be 2023 picks?

Yep 100% right, because you can't make an offer sheet until after the 2022 Entry Draft, so the 2022 picks have already been used.

We have all of our 2023 picks except for 7th round, which is not part of any compensation, so we are able to offer sheet an RFA if we wish to.

I think if Kuzmenko signs, one of Garland or Hoglander are traded. 1st round pick obviously which would apply to a $4-6million offer for a team that is cap strapped. The only interesting team that is Vegas. Not a lot of interesting names but:

- Nic Hague (D)

- Jesse Pujuluarrvi (F)

- Kappo Kakko (F)

- Andrew Mangiapane (F)

- Oliver Kylington (D)

- Jack Roslovic (C)

- Adam Boqvist (D)

- Victor Olofsson (F)

- Lawson Crouse (F)

- Timothy Liljegren (D)

- Nicolas Roy (C)

- Pierre Luc Dubois (C)

- Kevin Fiala (F)

- Kasperi Kapanen (F)

- Dominik Kubalik (F)

- Dylan Strome (F)

- Jesper Bratt (F)

- Miles Wood (F)

- Denis Gurianov (F)

- Pavel Zacha (F)

- Adrian Kempe (F)

- Sonny Milano (F)

I have to think it's for Nic Hague to shore up the D or Kevin Fiala (Wild are gonna be in cap misery next couple years)...

Fiala is going to get traded 100%

NYI would match for sure Dobson 22, 6'3 RD -- 80 GP-- 51 points this season - RFA-- signs 7 X 8 million-- NO WAY HE ISLEAVING - -NYI

CALGARY-- Would match-- Maybe Ottawa will make big trade offer for Tkachuk--- Ottawa have lots of great prospects

Of course they would match for Dobson. So why even bother and look like a fool?  JR isn’t a fool. He’s a hall of famer. He isn’t going to risk his reputation trying to offer sheet a young star.

Jeff Marek is just trying to fill up his 32 thoughts. I guess he was one thought short this week.

Perhaps it's part of the trade negotiations in a potential Miller move...?

The threat of an offer sheet can be just as good (better?) than an actual successful offer sheet, in trade negotiation.

Miller for Dobson or we'll offer sheet him and &^@# your already tight cap situation scenario...

NYI has more than enough cap space.  Dobson is their only noteworthy player to extend and they have 12M.

Weird, thought they were tighter.  Either way, they probably don't want to have to pay him more than they have to/ideal, as they do need improvements at F, and the cap to do so.

Would expect Dobson to have priority over any F.  He's become a core player for them and was the bright spot of the season.

Sure, and then we offer sheet him and they have to pay him more than they'd like... And they still need help on F as a returning, more expensive Dobson doesn't actually improve them.

How exactly are we going to offer sheet Dobson when we have less cap room then the Islanders and we don't even have enough draft picks to make an offer?

Just can't see them prioritising Fs over Dobson with how Trotz identified injuries on D as a major issue - couldn't break out the puck of their own zone.  Dobson has really become essential.  Lamoriello says he still believes in their group and it sounded like he felt their season never got on track more for reasons beyond their control - their 1st game at home was only in late November and they ran into injuries/Covid.  Could still see them trying to make some changes up front but not at the expense of Dobson.

We have the draft picks to make any offer sheet we like for Dobson, but you are right about cap space - NYI would match any offer we make.

Nic Hague.

Yep great target. VGK going to struggle to clear cap and teams will be circling for Hague and Roy.

Hague is a LD but could be a potential long term partner for Hughes (who moves to the right side).

We offer $5m x 5 years and pay a 2023 1st + 3rd compensation, not too bad for a 23 year old, 6'6", 221 lbs Dman.

I'd love to get him for $4.1m x 6 years (2nd round pick compensation) but doubt that will get it done!

but because we do not have our 2nd we cannot afford a large enough OFS for Tkachuk, but Dobson in the 1st+3rd range would work, but I imagine NYI match

No way Islanders let Dobson walk away. They match for sure.

I really can’t see Dobson going anywhere. He’s so young, he’s RHD, and he’s big. Those kinds of defenseman aren’t found often.

I think the Islanders would rather lose a good forward, than lose Dobson.

I wonder instead of offer sheeting Hague, if a deal can’t be done with Vegas to help them clear cap.

He’s worth keeping.

Management will do whatever it takes to keep him in New York.
