What has given anyone the impression that Kotkaniemi is a 2nd line player at this point?  Kravtsov is the same.

If we were to trade Miller for JK, then he’s our second line centre. Bigger guy, who has skill and plays with some nasty.

Kravtsov is either playing in a scoring top nine role (and producing) or he’s not in the league.

Seems like Carolina would be a good trade partner. Is there any actual smoke to this or are we just speculating? Is there any actual indication that we're shopping Miller or even seriously entertaining offers?

It's speculation based on news, if Carolina is out on Meier it's more than likely they'll be exploring other options. If I'm not mistaken Carolina's indicated a willingness to go for it as of late.

Nobody really knows what's going on in Canucks land, they've gotten better at stopping leaks as of late. But hey, that's what this forum is for in part, speculation.

At the end of the day folks are either speculating he'll stay or go, but it's speculation all the same until we know for sure.

No, but it's fun to talk about.

It's all speculation. All we really have is Friedman saying "He thinks teams have been asking about Miller." Which obviously is pure speculation, and to be fair we are ass why wouldn't teams be asking about him and anyone else of value? Also we are going off the idea that management has said pretty much everyone is open to being moved except Petey and Hughes. As well as them saying the team needs major surgery. We don't have too many players that can inject a bunch of assets into the team other than Hughes and Petey. So Miller is an obvious talking point for us.

I recall reading that, yeah. But if they're out on Meier they'll need to look elsewhere. I could see them being open to a player they know they'd be getting longevity out of.

They could contend if they were to add some more scoring punch, they're a great team defensively and they put up a lot of shots. Miller would certainly help their 24th ranked powerplay.

Not when the deal starts in the late 20s though.  Waddell says if you give guys in their late 20s a 6-7 year deal you end not getting what you paid for.  It's why Niederreiter, Trocheck were let go.  Their AGM Tulsky did quite a bit of work on ageing curves before being hired by Carolina.  Carolina trying to have an endless window and avoid committing to players who are at risk of falling off a cliff before their deals are up.

Yes, I've heard this before. Not entirely sold on their being completely inflexible regarding older players though, we'll see. Easier said than done to keep your roster forever young when chasing a cup.

Also depends on who else is available and what the market is like.

True. But their owner came out and said this year they are going to be serious buyers, right? He might be pushing for a big move, and not so concerned about five years down the road.

Speculating based on teams interested in him.

If JK was a capable second line center, why would Carolina trade him for a more expensive, older JT? JK is an overpaid, underachieving player thus far and I want don't want him in the Canucks future plans.

Have you seen Kotkaniemi play?  Plays with nasty??

Because he's buried behind some great players there, but still putting up good numbers for very limited mins.

He has the potential, and between him, Raty and our 1st this year (Likely a C) someone will emerge. Kotkaniemi has a floor as a 3C which his contract will match in a few years anyways.

Kravtsov is no sure thing but we have a thousand wingers so we have options there.  Zero risk move bringing him in, but he also came from NYR where they are focused on winning the cup not development.

A 30 year old on a long term contract is way off the Canes strategy.  The only players they have for any kind of term are 22.  Svech and Kok

True, but they have also generally under preformed in the playoffs, which may be part of the reason why they went and picked up some veteran talent. It does seem like it's not their MO, but I could also see it making a ton of sense for them. Here's hoping.

You never know.  Miller seems unlikely.  I wouldn't have expected them to trade for 37 year old Burns either but they did.  2 more years on his contract.
