so they are trading their captain away on an expiring contract?? ya let's trade away the captain on a contender at the deadline

Yeah, he works as a matchup center for them too, he's exactly the sort of player they'd be looking to keep given their strong defensive game. Miller would slot into either Pacioretty's spot on the wing or Kotkaniemi's spot at 2C.

It just makes so much sense for Car

Miller for Kotkaniemi, Morrow and a 1st just makes too much sense for both teams.  Cap works, needs work, timelines work…..just do it.

Nikishin is also very intriguing in place of the first.  Couple more of these moves and our surgery may be successful.

3 1st round picks this year along with the influx of young players and we could turn this thing around nicely

Let’s just keep JT. At worst he is a 60-70 point guy. Whatever. The problem we have are the OELs and Myers, not JT.

Three very different situations:

-Miller’s value will drop after this year but this deadline he could return three strong young pieces for our major surgery.

-OEL has been hampered by no defensive system and overcompensating for weak RDs. I still believe he is worth his contract and his perceived value is not there for a trade.  Buyout talk on OEL is complete nonsense.

-Myers needs to go because his offence has mostly left him and he is not committed to being a defensive D.  He still roams around where he shouldn’t too often.  Retain and move him for whatever you can.

Disagree, JT is a luxury they don't need.  They will have to shell out close to the same $ to replace OEL and Myers as they don't have in house replacementa.  Boeser needs to go, but they'll likely be retauning a huge chunk of his salary, taking cap back or both.

Trading Miller is the easiest, most efficient way to get assets and reduce cap.

Why move Myers now?  Why not wait until next tdl and actually get something for him?  It's not like they're competing for a Cup next season

All depends on the roster adds.  If we get Morrow in a Miller trade, sign Livingstone/Schenn and retain Bear, we should move him to not block the future but if those things don’t happen, you’re right, we could just wait and get something better next deadline.

A lot of teams in the West that haven’t made moves.

I think there’s even a couple teams in the East that could go for it that may surprise.

Blues maybe, they want to do a re-tool and we’re interested in Meier. Idk, don’t see many teams in the West otherwise interested. Vegas? Would be in the division and would have to be an overpayment imo.
