Marner is a fabulous player. He’s the best Leaf.

Good player but selfish as hell and incredibly lazy and overpaid.  Dubas should have traded him while he still had value instead of signing that ridiculous contract.

Out of the 2 Matthews has been more noticeable in the playoffs

Well. Arizona has the cap space. And a boatload of picks and prospects.

Considering the situation, if I was running Toronto (I could hardly do worse), I would go to Arizona and offer

To Arizona

Matthews (50% retained) (Arizona can't afford much right now for salary)

2023 1st round pick (Boston)

To Toronto

Arizona's 2023, 1st round pick

Ottawa's 2023, 1st round pick

2024 2nd round pick (whichever is the highest)

Then, Arizona announces that they are moving to Houston after a failed attempt to build an arena in Tempe, and Matthews never has the chance to play in front of his hometown crowd...lol.

Then

From Toronto:

Tavares

To:

Anyone who will give back a bag of pucks, beer and chips...

;)

All of hockey would lol at Arizona if they rush this and trade assets away when they can just wait one more year and get him for free.  I actually can't tell if this would be the ultimate Coyotes lolcow move or if this is entirely unrealistic since they just want to perpetually suck and sell the team.

If you listen to Laffs fans they'll just trade Matthews to whoever wins the lottery this year for first overall plus some extras.

LOL.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahaaha Would take Bedard any day over Matthews.

In 3 years, Arizona (or whoever they become if the vote fails), are going to be EXTREMELY hard to beat if they just stay the path they are on. They are racking up high end talent and picks.

That's assuming they get a real owner instead of a guy like Melnyk who isn't willing to pay what is necessary to ice an NHL team.

At this point is it safe to say that Devils and Canes fans do NOT want Florida?

I wouldn't wanna face the cats... there's something about them this year.  Gelling at the right time.  Everything is just clicking for them.

Why are the Leafs losing this series?

Well, besides the fact they don't have a strong enough group of D-men, the key fact is their best players are not stepping up.

Marner, Mathews, Nylander and Tavares are not leading by example and scoring goals and driving the offense.

None of them has scored a goal yet in the series.

Mathews and Nylander had 40 goals each in the regular season, Tavares had 36 and Marner had 30 goals.

Where is their production?

Just not good enough.

Armstrong states that it takes 11 to 14 years to rebuild a team.  Talks of how some teams tried to get out of their rebuild too quickly and had to start over.  He talks of trying to amass as many high draft picks as possible to try and accelerate that timeline.

With that mindset feels like there's really no chance that he moves those kind of assets.  Doubt they'd even want Matthews with their arena still not available and them looking to spend as little as possible - ownership is already losing quite a bit of money (revenue sharing does not make a team whole).

They are there for the long run - Bettman even talks of having a 30 year non relocation agreement once the arena plan is approved.  The pandemic + their arena situation has slowed things down but they have big plans.  Ownership is looking to develop a complete lot with apartments, shopping and the arena right in the middle of it.  The project is so much larger than just the Coyotes.
