We have him for 2 years then he's a Ufa. That 1st rounder would be property of he Canucks for a minimum of 9 years

AFAIK, we only have Hronek for 1 year....unless we're counting the handful of games he played before we shut him down....

Hronek's contract expires next July 1, at which point, he will be a RFA, NOT a UFA. We control resigning him to a long term deal assuming we're happy with how he's playing.

Not even bothered or surprised. We’ll make playoffs next year, and we have a good team moving forward. As the Panthers are demonstrating, if you have great goaltending and buy-in from a club, and toughness, you can rock it in the post season. We just need to get tougher.

Panthers have a heck of a defense and forwards with grit.  We have softies like boeser and a tiny dcore.

The bright side is, because he will likely immediately enter the NHL next season, in 7 years, he can sign with the Canucks as a UFA

We can hope. There will be zero sentimental reasons for the Bedards to stay in Chicago. And pulling a Tkachuk wont be as awkward as doing it to Columbus.

I agree, I am just glad we never dropped like we usually do, Progress. ::D

..................and yes , we definitely need to get tougher,  a big priority IMHO.

Right....and this is 2023, so......

Hronek is an RFA is 2024 so … we have him for at least two more years. Next year and then one more at least. He’s a great player and it was a fantastic trade. He’s on a steal of a contract.

But we have him for more than one year. That’s what the post was about. We have at least two years of control.

Why would players care?

Do you keep having to get the same question answered over and over again?  Is it an ESL issue or wilful ignorance at this point?

Players don’t tank… organizations do.

We could have moved more bodies out at the deadline, we could have shut down Demko longer or had him do a conditioning stint in Abby, we could have avoided playing Hughes 28 minutes a game, we could have played more kids to see who was close to NHL ready, we didn’t need to bring in a coach mid season (again)… many things teams do in order to get high draft picks.

Maybe look at what the team who won the lottery did?

That's not really the right way to look at it. Once his current contract expires next July, we'll likely sign him to a multi-year deal, the majority of which will have us buying UFA years. I highly doubt we sign him to a one-year deal next July and walk him to UFA.
