Brad Marchand
I want to avoid putting the weight of the world on Schneider's shoulders like some of you (not including the OP) already have. However, I am optimistic that Cory will be a very good, if not great, starting goaltender in this league, wherever he plays.

D-Money
No such thing as a goalie graveyard. That was just a phrase coined by Brian Burke to cover for the fact that he couldn't manage to land a decent starter, despite years of trying. Then, of course, his understudy comes in and pulls it off right away....

-Vintage Canuck-
Judging by how confident he looked this year and looking at his stats, he could possibly be on of the great goalies in the NHL.

cc_devil
Sneids may never be the best but has proved he's ready to be number 1. Don't forget he went about his devolpement the right way and is now entering his prime. This isn't an inexperienced rookie of 20.21,22 he's the prime age and has a team attitide which fits with the rest of the team.
RGC
Good point - missed that. However, there is at least some evidence that this season is an anomaly for Brian: 2008-2009 Senators - 31GP - .902 save% 2009-2010 Senators - 55GP - .909 2010-2011 Senators - 43GP - .894 2010-2011 Avalanche - 12GP - .891 Cory had a .929 last year over 25GP. Canuck Surfer
Dont know if your aware. Going through last season; Luongo held the exact same position. Lou was second all time in recorded history (about 20 years), behind Hasek, in all time save %. And he accomplished that with more than half his time being bombarded with shots in Florida! No one, other than Hasek (Thomas has no where near the games played in the NHL to compare) has a body of work that compares to Lou's in contributing to this. Lundqvist is close, you should include a list of games played to make this argument? If it were my choice, I would go with Schneider if I had the choice. But I also have no inhibitions whatsover in handing the reigns back to Lou who is still obviously a superb goalie. Except perhaps that possibility that he is sulking again, and may have asked for a trade ? Last year, Tim Thomas had heads turning by setting a record for the highest save percentage in a season (since they started recording it in 1983), with a .938. Dominik Hasek held the previous record with a .936, which he set in 1998-99. People were surprised that in the supposedly more wide-open hockey of post-lockout, that a goaltender would be able to beat a record from the cluth-and-grab hay-day. HOWEVER, the Dominator is now 3rd - Cory Schneider's .937 from this past season is now 2nd all-time. In fact, Cory Schneider's career save percentage is best in the NHL...EVER. Nobody comes close to his .928: 1 - Dominik Hašek - 0.922 2 - Tim Thomas - 0.921 3 - Pekka Rinne - 0.921 4 - Henrik Lundqvist - 0.920 5 - Roberto Luongo - 0.919 True, it's only been 68 games, but 68 games is nothing to sniff at. And that number could likely go even higher, because that includes in his first 8 games , when his save percentage was only .877. Also, Cory's career GAA of 2.24 is 2nd among active goalies. Only Martin Brodeur's 2.23 has him beat - and only because of all his years in the aforementioned clutch-and-grab era, playing for the cluthiest-and-grabiest team in history. --------------------- Again, time will tell if Cory can put together these types of numbers in a starter's role, and over many seasons. But so far, he's given us every indication that he's the real deal...an elite, possibly generational - goaltender.
wai_lai416
Eye opener!!! Also this thread should be pinned, its just that awesome. Cory haters sit down and shut up!! Trolls bashing a great young goalie who is also a team first guy for NO GOOD reason at all!! And they call themselves fans of the team. Finally we have a chace to move on from a disapointing era, where time and time again we got knocked out in an embarassing fashion. Almost cost us the prime of the team! Hopefully these trolls and sentiMENTAL fools stick stick around so they can be cured
Tru_Knyte
Sample size is way to small. If he can maintain similar averages over 82 games each season, then we can talk.
Canucksbiggestfan
This thread is WAY to premature. He has ONLY played 68 games, and comparing his stats to the likes of Hasek and Brodeur is absurd (at this point). Once Cory has played 1-2 seasons and has similar stats that is when you can start to compare him to those types of goalies.
Day one
Has it ever occured to anyone that come July we may be sitting with Luongo who wants a trade out of this pit of vipers, and Schneider, who also wants a trade out of this pit of vipers? What then? Two goalies that the Canucks have under contract who don't want to play here. Sad thing is, the way so many fans are going on, it would be kind of deserved. And don't think it can't happen, Cory has already expressed how he feels about the way Lou is getting treated. It's not much of a leap to see himself being treated the same way if he were to take the reigns

Ray_Cathode
Terrible. Why don't you let Schneider play a full season as a starter first. Like all the ones you're comparing him to. There's going to be a harsh reality if luongo leaves.
lateralus
68 games is a good sample size...a lot more than 1-7. Cory would have broken Dominik Hasek's record, had Tim Thomas not done it first. Dominik frickin Hasek, in all his amazing years, never had a save percentage as high as what Schneider just had. And it was over 33 games. That's not the kind of record just any young goalie comes along and sets. In fact, it's the kind of record NO young goalie has even come close to...playing the standardly-recognized 25 games in a season, of course. Industrious1
I think letting him have a full season to breathe as number one and seeing how the team plays in front of him will be a much better indicator of how things will be going forward..lets hold the "best goalie ever" part back until he's got a bit more experience under his belt.
