Mentioned this on TSN yesterday.

Knew him from St. Louis. Can't do worse than Howsen.

Anyways, good luck to him.

I really hope this franchise can somehow be turned around. It really isn't fun to see NHL franchises die a slow, painful death.

Jackets made some history..

History? Not so much. It's more like the Jackets made the answer to a future trivia question.

As for the hiring, I wish him luck. That team has been mis-managed for so long. The fans there deserve better.

Having a draft wiz should help Columbus immensely.

It's hard to ever imagine a Columbus team being succesful. But I would like to see him make it happen, out of pure sympathy for the few die hard Bluejacket fans

Three first rounders to work with in a deep draft. Also, quite a few decent young prospects already there.

The pieces are in place. All he needs to do is be smart (i.e. - opposite of former GMs).

I think he'll do well there. He has 3 1st rounders to work with this year

If the season ended today he would have the 5th,7th and 16th pick in a very deep draft, some day in par with 2003. (IE Vanek, Suter, Parise)

Great time to switch to a draft GM.

^^ Are you sure that's not the face he'll be making at this year's draft? :P

But anyway, mentioned this was a good possibility in the Howson firing thread yesterday, as TSN (more Bob MacKenzie actually) was right on top of it and singled him out as a top candidate. Looking at his resume in the draft at least it seems like this will be a definite improvement over Howson and they'll take the time to develop their players and improve this team.

If this team lets go of Sang he will burn this team next year.

No that's a pic from last years draft.

I don't doubt most ppl on CDC have never heard of this guy but when JD was hired in CBJ I thought its just a matter of time before Jarko becomes the GM. Howson was on borowed time and Jarko was a candidate for the Blues GM job when Armstrong took over.

He's very familiar for those who watch the NHL draft. Kinda hard to miss with his name and look.

True!

I'm almost overly excited about this move. One of the most exciting so far since the last draft & 1st of July. Jarmo has tons of experience as scout, assistant GM, PR stuff, knows ALOT of players, he's been scouting them for years with Ottawa and St.Louis. He is a very patient, yet determined man and will no doubt get the team back on track. Hopefully the owners have enough patience to let a man do his work and understand it can't be done overnight.

Canuck fan since '92 when I was 9 years old and have never been able to be a fan of any secondary team. But this instantly got me hyped on the CBJ and will be monitoring their progress closely.

As a sidenote, I think CBJ might move one of their 1st rounders in favor of a young up and coming forward. Something like O'Reilly. I doubt they will use all three 1st rounders. Let's wait and see!

@BakesTakes84: What will Don Cherry think of first Euro GM hired? Might be worth tuning in Saturday night. Or is he past that stuff now??

OT:
Not being canadian and all, I have a question regarding Mr.Cherry. Is people actually taking him seriously and is he a man worth listening to, or is he who I have learned to view him as; a total joke and a kinda all show no go -type? I've never seen him doing anything useful (if he has, it's been before my time) and I've only heard his opinions and him jabber away about nonsense, I find him being a total ***hole. Am I correct or do I need to re-evaluate his status?

St.Louis's draft record is so so at best. HIs 2010 picks were no brainers. Erik Johnson pick didn't work out. Looks like Davidson wanted no part of Brian Burke for his team.

Well, I , I feel very good about this draft, but I, I think, potentially you know were gonna have 3 or 4 NHL players out of this group, ummmm, you know like we are not going to prejudice to were they are from.

if im MG i give him a call just to say welcome to the nhl GM world. If you ever want to discuss a trade after you evaluate your teams play dont hesitate to call me

Columbus has decent players, non elite but alot of good depth guys and 3rd liners for most clubs. they have quite a few draft picks and some decent prospects.

Wouldnt mind our team making any trades with them down the road, never know what their new gm may be looking for

Any man getting a segment on HNIC (tax payer funded TV station) is taken serious, whether those who dislike him admit it or not.

In 2004 we had a show called "The Greatest Canadian". The show had viewers vote on who they thought was the greatest Canadian.

Don Cherry came in 7th spot.

Take it for what its worth. The guy who invented the telephone was 9th.

They'll be using the same strategy JD and company used in STL.

Trade veteran top 9 player for younger roster players and/or good picks.

Let those younger roster players you traded for develop and grow on your team and have a solid feeder system via the draft to augment that talent.

This is how you build depth on a team. And we all know a deep team is a winning team.

I hope we get Dorsett from them. Good 3rd/4th line energy player

Maybe trade them Suave+4th?

Care to share where you think Dorsett and his $1.633M cap hit will fit in our lineup going forward? Does he replace Hansen or do we move him to his off wing to replace Higgins? Does he take over from one of Volpatti or Weise, who are doing a reasonable job at a much cheaper rate on our 4th line?

There may be some moves for sure as both Davidson and Kekalainen work together on who they'd like to see on this team going forward, so it'll be interesting to see how it shakes out for them this season and through the summer.

No.

Why trade away a young defensive prospect AND a 4th for an ordinary player like Dorsett? CBJ ruined his development by putting him (and most of their prospects) into the NHL right away.
